M.A.D! Cafe breathes new life into PV128 at Jalan Genting Klang, Setapak KL with a wide selections of thoughtfully designed modern Asian dishes that cover from local favourite to Oriental delights and Western cuisine, as well as a mix of both. This makes M.A.D! lives up to its name, where M.A.D! stands for Modern Asian Diner!.
M.A.D! is the brainchild of Chef Dave Looi, a Singaporean-born, American-pressed and Asian-soused chef; Mr. Afandi Oh, a successful entrepreneur since his collage days; and Mr. Han Yong, the well-known entrepreneur within the business community.
Located beside Chatime Taiwanese Bubble Milk Tea, same row with Yu Yan Sang, M.A.D! can be easily seen from the main road, thanks to its striking M.A.D! signboard. This semi two-floors cafe appears to be dreamy with warmth and cozy touch, utilizing ample of natural wooden furnishing and baby white as theme colour.
Fried Shrimp Wanton (RM11) and Chicken Lor Bak (RM11.50)
Choices for appetizes are limited, and we recommend Deep Fried Chicken Wings, Fried Shrimp wanton, Poh Piah, and Chicken Lor Bak. For diners come in big group, do go for M.A.D! Appetizer Platter (RM29.50) that covers all four on a bed of warm pumpkin & papaya salad.
Chicken SiChuan Ma La Pot RM19.50
M.A.D! highly recommends their SiChuan Ma La Pot, as Chef Dave is prides for his know-how in preparing a good SiChuan dish with quality ingredients. All this pay tribute to his experience gathered from restaurants led by him in China. However, in order to cater general tastebud of Malaysian, the spiciness of the Ma La Pot is highly toned down, leaving just mild tongue-numbing sensation with aroma of spices developing in the palate.
Rendang Lamb Shank RM28.50
Lamb shank slow-braised to result in tender soft, easily fell-off-the-bone meat, with sweetness deeply infused into the rich, creamy Kelantan-style rendang gravy. Served with roasted garlic mashed potato, grilled seasonal vegetable, garnished with gremolata yougurt. We love the flavourful gravy over the lamb shank, and suggest to get a bowl of rice to douse it with.
Deep Fried Squid in Salted Egg RM17.50
Seafood dishes in M.A.D! focus more on popular Asian Chinese favourites such as Deep Fried Squid in Salted Egg(RM17.50), Cereal Butter Prawn(RM22.50), Wok Seared Fish Slices with Black Bean(RM15.50), Seafood Egg Fu Yung (RM14.50) and Assam Curry Fish Head (RM18.50). Presentation is more delicate compare to local Dai Chao, but the taste of home in these dishes call for some winning points.
Kangkung Belacan RM12.00
Didn’t expect Kangkung Belacan on M.A.D! cafe menu but surprisingly, it turned out to be so delicious, one of our top picks. Packed with punch of flavours, spiciness and saltiness of belacan, all well-mingled to each strand of kangkung plus crunchy, chewy bites in between for more texture.
Seafood Sambal RM19.50
Again, a dish that goes well with rice. The explosive, fiery hot sambal sauce scores over the seafood, but the amount of juicy scallop, chewy squid and bouncy prawns you can dig is satisfying enough.
Apart from ala-carte all day dining menu M.A.D! offers 3-course set lunch at RM23.90 from Mon-Fri (exclude PH) 11AM to 2PM. M.A.D! Set lunch tarts with soup of the day, continue with choice of curry noodle, chicken burger sandwich, nasi goreng istimewa or mushroom linguine aglio olio as main course, end with dessert of the day. Include complimentary soft drink/coffee/tea. You can also get Teatime Set at RM12.00, comes with choice of your cake with M.A.D! Coffee/Kopi O/Kopi O C Teh/Teh O, Teh C or softdrink.
