After lots of “camera shooting cameras” activities at The Camera Musuem, Lebuh Muntri, we took a rest at The Alley Cafe Penang which is just a few streets away from the museum, about 10 minutes walking. Despite the scorching hot weather, the journey doesn’t seem far, thanks to the murals and heritage buildings along the way, providing more photos opportunities.
To be truth, The Alley Cafe Penang wasn’t easy to locate, due to the ‘misleading’ signboard. Walked pass 55 Cafes at Love Lane, we continued to walk on until we saw a tyre repairing shop, there is a shop named Gahahu Keat Seang next to it, which is also the exact location for The Alley Cafe, opposite Godness of Mercy Temple.
The Alley Cafe is small but filled with charm, definitely an ideal place to stop by and rest after appreciating murals around the town, or merely gathering with friends for afternoon tea time session. Do not expect heavy breakfast or lunch dishes like American Breakfast Platter, spaghetti, Egg Benedict or even sandwich, but stay for their cronuts and churros.
Coffee is the highlights here, great pairing with cakes and their signature sweet treats. From 12pm to 12midnight daily, The Alley Cafe serves medium dark roast house blend, great for milk based coffee, come with double ristretto.
For guests who prefer cold drinks, iced coffee, iced chocolate, choco mint frappe, pink guave frappe, tropical punch, mocha frappe, etc. are available.
Churros and cronuts are the must have here, each serving comes with a dipping or topping choices of salted caramel, nutella, caramel, cinnamon sugar and chocolate. We picked Nutella as recommended by the staff, and it was so so so delicious!
Thick, rich, chocolaty goodness gracefully coated the cronut brimming with layers of crispiness and flakiness, a combination of doughnut and croissant texture. Further laced with salted caramel sauce and crushed nuts for more texture.
We love this cozy place, though quietly tucked away behind the alley, as it is named. Will be back again!
