At a hidden corner of Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) Level 1, near to Hush Puppies, we are surprise to come across a restaurant that has been serving marvelous Western cuisine with great hospitality for more than a decade in Bangsar area- Monte’s Restaurant & Wine Bar.
It is a spacious restaurant, welcoming diners with modern, cutting edge design, comfortable for casual dining. The front dining area proves to be more homey, visually appealing with white colour bricks wall adorned with frameless pictures, black ceiling with exposed pipes, shade lamps in soft yellow lights, sofas and cushioned chairs in earthy tones and a row of wooden shelves brimming with bottles and bottles of wine.
The inner sitting areas on the other hand, appears like a garden. Lots of green potted plants accompanying wooden chairs and tables laid in contrasting colour of red-orange seat cushions and table mats, iron beams’ ceiling, and walls painted in soothing pale brown.
Escargots with Garlic Toast RM19.00/ half dozen
Great environment should always pair with delicious meal. Start of your meal in Monte’s with juicy, chewy escargot baked in cheesy, creamy, extra garlicky sauce. One can easily polish down half dozen, and sweeps the sauce clean with toasted bread.
Juicy Scallop RM39.00/ half dozen
Plump, bouncy scallops sit over a bed of delicately smooth sweet potato purée, flavour enhanced with a swirl of tarragon butter and vinegar for a buttery, yet tangy concoction.
Seafood Salad RM29
At Monte’s, we suggest you to take a switch from the usual choice of Caesar Salad and pick up their Seafood Salad if you enjoy flavours from the sea, as your healthy plate of fresh green will go blissful with generous amount of mini octopus, prawns, smoked salmon and luxurious added with black caviar.
Prawn Chowder RM18.00
Mild sourness from tomato, creamy, smooth with umami sweetness from prawn, plus a fresh whole river prawn laid over, huge enough to bring the bowl of soup value for the price.
Fresh Oxtail RM18.00
Highly recommend to have Monte’s Fresh Oxtail soup into your entree, which is also our favourite. Thick, savory soup appears in dark brown colour, full-bodied, intense with flavours, served with oxtail braised to tenderly soft, almost melt in the mouth. Can be filling but it is so delicious that we lick the whole bowl clean.
Pam Seared Cod RM59.00
Cod fish pan seared to result in flaky, moist fillet coupled with crispy layer of skin and a touch of saltiness; bringing texture and colours contrast with ratatouille that is beautifully cooked from cubed vegetables.
Ribeye Steak RM63.00
Generous portion of steak prepared in Monte’s way- nicely brown at the outside, succulent with juiciness lock within. Side dish goes simple with sauté seasonal vegetables for nutrient balance.
Spicy Salmon RM38.00
Another noteworthy dish from the main course. No doubt on the fish freshness, but what we like most is the savoury gravy that clocks in just right to heighten the flavour of salmon with a curry-like spicy,creamy Asian twist, tickling the tastebud yet not overwhelm.
Charbroiled Lamb Rack RM50.00
Three lamb racks lined on a bed of mashed potato, broccoli and thyme sauce. Taste pretty decent, smoky with a little charred surface, minimal gamey taste, chewy meat with good amount of fat.
Bread and Butter Pudding RM13.00
A different version of bread and butter pudding for us, as this is extremely potent with buttery and milky goodness, high content of milk to get it so moist, like a sponge fully soaked up with water, less custardy, more eggy-soft like.
Brownies RM13.00
Some say that Monte’s serves one of the best brownies in town, so here we are to join. Dense and chocolaty, but could be more fudgy.
