BlackBixon Jalan Imbi KL (Beside Chuai Heng Restaurant Imbi), a new cafe in Kuala Lumpur city centre with a glass house entrance, welcoming you to uniquely crafted coffee, hearty brunch, beautiful line up of freshly make pastries, breads and cakes – in a spacious dining setting renovated from a double-storey bungalow.
Ground floor appears to be more casual and commercial to us, but not the upper floor – quite WOW indeed. Feels like stepping into a thoughtfully designed home, with carefully selected furnishing, decor and wall art. Ideal for friends and family gathering; celebration like proposal, baby shower, birthday parties; as well as corporate events.
We visited BlackBixon on their first week of opening during July, had only coffee because we were looking for a quick stop for caffeine-fix that afternoon. Returned last week, to check out more of their sweet & savory offerings.
Breakfast & Brunch is available from 8AM through 2PM, where you can have BlackBixon Big Breakfast, Pumpkin Hummus, Potato Hash, Truffled Egg, Real French Toast, Smoked Salmon Avo Toast and Lamb Stew. The rest of the main dishes including pasta, burgers and schnitzel can be ordered from 11AM onwards. To be honest, we didn’t put much expectation on their food initially, as we aren’t big fans of burgers and pasta. BlackBixon proves us wrong, as they surprised us with really delicious Chili Soft Shell Crab Pasta and Black Truffle Squid Ink Carbonara.
Chili Soft Shell Crab Pasta RM38
House-made squid ink tagliolini coated with rich, creamy, mild spicy chili crab paste, topped with whole soft shell crab – Deep fried to golden brown for their crunchy outside, juicy inside bites. And they aren’t stingy with the portion. We both agree that soft shell crab here is larger in size, meatier too comparing to many of the soft shell crab pasta/burger we have had before. Highly recommended.
Black Truffle Pasta RM33
Another favourite of ours. Squid ink taliolini is house-made too, served with black truffle cream sauce, beef bacon bits and topped with 64C egg. Other pasta option includes Miso Butter Milk Chicken Linguine, BlackBixon Meatball Pomodoro Linguine, Smoked Duck Aglio Olio Linguine, and Pesto Gnocchi.
Beef Burger RM29
For burgers, currently BlackBixon Cafe serves 5 types of burgers, namely chicken burgers, lamb burgers, crabby burgers, truffle portobello burger. Had a beer burger, putting together Australian beef patty with mixed spices, cheddar, tomatoes, lettuces, cucumber, sauteed onions, special sauce within two charcoal buns, side with french fries.
What makes BlackBixon Cafe more worthwhile is the extra effort in curating something unique, special for their menu. Apart from using high quality ingredients, the team also incorporated “black-theme” to some of their food – black squid ink pasta, black charcoal burger bun, charcoal latte, charcoal danish, etc. The star croissant – Salted Egg Charcoal Croissant is something we really wanted to try that day but sadly, it was sold out. Staff told us that usually this croissant would be sold out around/after lunch time. So be early, or be ready to be disappointed, like us.
So we tried the Fruity Danish, which looks equally appealing with its black, flaky pastry, contrasting by bright orange of peach cubes.
For beverage, coffee, tea, matcha, chocolate, cold pressed juice, kombucha by WILD are on the list. Something that you shouldn’t miss are Blackbixon Specialties – Monochrome RM18, a latte crafted with charcoal powder (*which explains its black colour) combined with vanilla and salted caramel; Tropicalxon RM18 – espresso based cold drink creatively concocted from coffee, coconut water, passion fruit and soda.
Overall, had a satisfying experience at BlackBixon. Will definitely returned for the Chilli Soft Shell Crab Pasta again. For parking, there are few lots right in front of the restaurant, and more at the opened carpark, right across the road.
