Ah Ma Jia Bukit Jalil City 阿嫲家, a new cafe in Bukit Jalil with fancy double-decked seats, reminds us about Lhong Tou Cafe at Yaowarat, Bangkok.
It is of smaller scale compare to the one in Thailand. Despite only 5 groups of diners can be seated at one time, this Bangkok-inspired dining space does add some fun to normal days dining. Other than this, the interior focuses on ” ah ma’s home” design, towards vintage old-school style with decorations and knick-knacks that live up to the restaurant name.
For food, Ah Ma Jia menu is more extensive than we thought of. From traditional local delights such as Northern Asam Laksa, Siam Laksa, Curry Laksa, Ayam Masak Special, Nenek Sambal Sotong, Mama Nasi Lemak, Mee Jawa to familiar Chinese dishes that are hard to go wrong with – Cantonese Fried Mee Sua, Hainanese Chicken Chop, Curry Chee Cheong Fun, Minced Pork Rice, Yang Zhou Fried Rice, Luncheon Meat Fried Rice, and Lor Bak. A small choices of Western delicacies like Fish & Chips, Grilled Chicken Chop are available too.
Ah Ma Jia Cafe also gives a creative fusion twist to some of the classics, incorporating ingredients like roast pork in spaghetti and fried rice; topping spicy pork floss & peanut butter on fried mantao; spice up popcorn chicken with sichuan pepper, chili and fried garlic, just to name a few. Some of the must-try signatures include Grany’s Signature Shrimp XO Fried Chee Cheong Fun, Yin Yang Laksa, Deep Fried Pork Cutlet Rice, Volcano Fried Rice.
Wanted to try their famous Deep Fried Pork Cutlet Rice but it was sold out during our visit. Swap to Curry Pork Chop Rice (RM16) instead. Price is consider reasonable for two generous pieces of pork chop, served with rice, sunny side up and curry sauce. Meat is nicely marinated, flavourful but would be better if it could be less tough and dry.
Mee Jawa (RM12) is highly recommended though. Hearty portion, topped with crushed peanuts, deep fried tau fu pok, deep fried fu zhok, sambal sotong, potato and egg.
Lor Bak (RM8) as side. End the meal with Chinese Tong Sui if you still have rooms after the mains – Snow Fungus & Longan, Mak Zuk, Yuba Barley, Mama Chacha. Ribena Soda Longan, Red Bean Dinasour, Blended Coconut with Ice-Cream look good too. Ah Ma Jia Bukit Jalil City is located just a short walk from Pavilion Bukit Jalil, a good choice for lunch or early dinner if restaurants in this new mall are too crowded.
