Organised by FunNow and supported by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japanese Wagyu Feast is here to bring you some of the best Japanese Wagyu dishes in Klang Valley. From 1st December 2021 – 15th January 2022, Malaysian diners have the opportunity to sample an array of Wagyu dishes, including menus that are created exclusively for this festival, at participating restaurants in Klang Valley.
Japanese Wagyu is a Japanese beef cattle breed which is derived from native Asian cattle. ‘Wagyu’ refers to all Japanese beef cattle, where ‘Wa’ means Japanese and ‘gyu’ means cow. Wagyu is often called “the most expensive beef in the world,” with brands such as Kobe beef being praised as cultivating the “art of meat,” raising every animal carefully and under rigorous management.
Wagyu were originally draft animals used in agriculture, and were selected for their physical endurance. This selection favoured animals with more intramuscular fat cells – ‘marbling’ – which provided a readily available energy source. The unique taste and tenderness of highly marbled Wagyu beef makes for an unrivalled eating experience.
There are four criteria that determine how high the quality grade of Japanese Wagyu is: fat marbling, colour and brightness, firmness and texture, and the colour and brightness of the fat. As such, A5 is the highest grade that Japanese wagyu beef can get and, also, the most expensive. Once you know what the wagyu grade system is all about, it will be a tremendous help in making a decision when choosing a restaurant or what to order.
The Japanese Wagyu Feast 2021 aims to provide a destination for diners to discover and savour quality Japanese Wagyu dishes at Klang Valley’s top restaurants including but not limited to Tsukiji No. 8, Ozeki Tokyo Cuisine, Fu Rin Japanese Restaurant, Jyu-Jyu Tei, Ishin Japanese Dining, and Kampachi Plaza33. Diners can discover extraordinary melt-in-your-mouth teppanyaki, Wagyu nigiri (sushi), Wagyu beef tataki salad, Wagyu don, moriawase, amongst many others.
