Vintage 1988 Cafe Jalan Sultan – a new coffee place in KL that doubles as a vintage fashion accessories store, also one of the most Instagrammable cafes near Petaling Street KL. If you know where is the equally popular Lim Kee Cafe by Tian Jing Hotel, Vintage 1988 cafe is just few lots away.
The brand itself, Vintage 1988 is founded as a Malaysian independent vintage fashion label, specializes in a wide range of vintage charm collection ideal with necklace, bracelet, bagholders, keychains, earrings, boho dreamcatchers. You can locate their accessories stores at major shopping malls including Pavilion KL Tokyo Street, Sunway Pyramid shopping Mall, and 1 Utama shopping Centre.
There’s also a lovely selections of these accessories at Vintage 1988 Cafe Jalan Sultan. You can either have the ready-to-purchase accessories, or customize your own favourites. Our visit was more towards to discover their coffee and food, of course, not forgetting their really beautiful, tastefully designed interior.
Carrying the characteristic of chic retro-style coffee shop blended with modern touch, Vintage 1988 Cafe is thoughtfully decorated with antique knick-knacks, wooden furnishing, army green arm chairs, exposed brick walls, vintage pendant light, arched steel windows, etc.; further adorned with lots of green potted plants and catchy neon light sign to lift up the mood.
Hot Wrap, Hot Panini, Hot Pie and Waffle take the centre stage of Vintage 1988 Jalan Sultan menu, great for cafe hoppers looking for light brunch options. Common choices like big breakfast, egg benedict, muesli bowl and so forth are not in sight, but doesn’t matter for us.
Tried their Caramelized Banana Waffle RM16. Freshly made, crispy at the outside, warm and fluffy soft inside, topped with lightly-burned banana and cream. Not bad. Suggest to add a scoop of gelato for more satisfying dessert treat.
They also have Kampung Durian Waffle RM26, Chocolate Rich Waffle RM26, Alcoholic Adult Waffle (*with whiskey and Tiramisu gelato!! =D) RM35, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Muscular Waffle RM15 and Waffle Stick with Valrhona Chocolate Sauce Dipping RM18.
For drinks, we stick to our weekend must-have, coffee. Coffee price is relatively reasonable, at RM8 for black, RM10 for 8oz white ( latte, flat white, cappuccino). You can go for the larger size 10oz by adding another RM2, also additional RM2 for extra shot, or for flavours – hazelnut, coconut, vanilla, chocolate.
It is recommended to resort to Vintage 1988 coffee cocktail if you are in the mood for booze, trying out their specially crafted coffee-infused alcoholic beverage ranging from classic Espresso Martini to Espresso with cococnut Rum & Baileys, Espresso with Vodka, Kahlua & Club Soda, Espresso with Coca-cola & Baileys. Non-caffeinated Summer Drinks are great thirst quencer too – pineapple ice crush, orange ice crush, apple lemon ice crush, cucumber lemonade, pomegranate fizzy soda, pineapple fizzy soda and Mango Mojito, just to name a few.
