Our first visit to 2OX at The Row, Kuala Lumpur was a afternoon high tea session. Two-tier set with savoury and sweet, and a side of scrambled egg with salmon, croissant, Pain au Chocolat, most items were so memorable that we planned for a return to savour proper main course from 2Ox ala-carte menu.
Being one of the trendiest bistro bar in KL, 2OX sets to satiate the palate of diners with classic French favourites, prepared from high quality, carefully selected ingredients with the majority imported fresh from overseas such as a selection of charcuterie and artisanal cheeses. For a more satisfying dining experience, 2OX carries a lovely range of good, attractive wine to pair with their great food.
Just recently, 2OX welcomes new chef in the house, Chef Phillip Murray Dominic. He has over 10 years of culinary experience with training in variously countries including Verona, Italy, Austria, just to name a few. He was with Le Meridien KL Prime Steak Restaurant and Favola Restaurant previously, as well as Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur and Avani Hotel (Perahu Restaurant) Global cuisine.
Putting together his skills, experience, passion and creativity, Chef Phillip brings fresh new look to 2OX menu starting this September, churning out delicious delicacies with authentic flavours of French cuisine.
Amuse Bouche
Roasted seedless grapes, marinated feta cheese and balsamic reduction RM25
Diners can create their own 3-course menu for only RM88++, or RM 120++. We sampled few items from the dinner menu, began Amuse Bouche – a creative collection of grilled homemade toast topped with fresh seasonal toppings.
Appetizers
Josper Grill Wagyu Petit tender, Green Puy Lentils, Herb Sour Cream RM45
Next up, appetizers in a luscious way with Josper Grill Wagyu Petit tender, placed over a bed of green puy lentils that deliver healthy flavours, along with herb sour cream that adds in pleasing, contrasting tangy twist.
Lobster Bisque with Lobster and Carrot Bon-Bon RM26
Summergirl’s favourite! It has been some time since we last indulged into lobster bisque. 2OX has a decent version! Tummy warming, full flavours, creamy lobster goodness all gathered in this bright orange broth. We don’t mind having second helpings!
Mains
Espresso Braised Beef Short Ribs, Fondant Potatoes, king Oyster Mushroom RM90
Meat lovers, it is hard not liking this beef short ribs. Braised in espresso gravy for hours, the ribs is tender and soft, locked with moist and gelatinous layer at the edges. Mop the remaining sauce clean with fondant potatoes and grilled king Oyster Mushroom. Fabulous.
For those who are more into seafood, this an Seared Calamari with Caramelized Garlic, Tomato Culis Ala Provencal, Fondant Potatoes, Asparagus Tempura could be your right order. Lighter in taste with refreshing tomato sauce, loaded with textures – crunchiness from deep fried vegetable, chewiness from calamari and more.
Desserts
Mousse Cheese Cake, Vanilla Curd and Almond Sable RM35
End the meal with desserts. Crumby, buttery pastry crust, nestled with extra creamy, mousse-like cheese filling and topped with almond sable and meringue. Ideal to be shared among two.
Chocolate Lava Cake with Raspberry Sherbet RM30
Yay, the last dish before we called the meal an end. Couldn’t help ordering this chocolate lave cake. Look at the melting chocolate flowing out once we cut through the warm, chocolaty cake. Rich but not too sweet, went well with refreshing raspberry sorbet that hit in just right with cold, berry sweetness. Recommended.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal in 2OX a lot. Chocolate Lava Cake and Espresso Braised Beef Ribs are our top favourite! Definitely a great place for romantic couple dining, equally suitable for friends party and events too!
