The Other Half Cafe at Greens Terrace, TTDI KL – says this is one of the most talked about coffee places in Kuala Lumpur recently, not too wrong though. Showcasing a thoughtfully designed interior with giant word hunting wall, The Other Half Cafe impressed us right from the moment we stepped in.
We literally started to read on the alphabets in horizontal, vertical, diagonally way once walked in. Suddenly so hardworking. Hahaha. Great place to bring along young kids for some new words teaching. Most words don’t go far from related to a cup of Joe – milk, mocha, cafe, latte, bean, black, white, espresso, piccolo, cappuccino, and the rest, we leave it for you to check out.
Putting this creative wall of word search aside, the entire restaurant is like our ultimate dream home design. How we wish we could sleep in here. #DayDreaming. Walls largely made up of ceiling-to-floor windows, marrying forest green, champagne gold, wooden and white colour into pleasing, harmony scene. The high ceiling space is further extended with an outdoor al-fresco area, covering a landscape of man-made meadow, low-height tables and chairs in black for you to chill while enjoying lovely coffee.
Super in love with this shelf system. Can look at this for whole day. So much win on the champagne gold finishing, and decorative items in contrasting colour but blending well in whole.
Too much on the interior. Back to food. Opening up Other Half Cafe menu that looks like a gift card, we were greeted with a list of Australian-inspired dishes incorporated with local and international flavours for modern fusion twist, summing up to colourful, ingredients packed delights. Just, price wise, can be on the high side.
Egg on Toast with Greens RM20
We were there too early for the sweet, not yet in the appetite for deep fried so decided to back to the basic breakfast, getting ourselves Egg on Toast with Greens (RM20) and Japanese Omelette (RM24). Other options on the menu includes Risotto Lemak (RM29), Cauliflower and Szechuan Fritters (RM26), Pan Fried Sous Vide Barramundi (RM35), Sweet & Sour Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM35), Matcha Hot Cakes (RM26), Coconut Waffles (RM28), The Other Half Baked Eggs (RM26), Five Spices Duck Leg Confit (RM34), South American Style Prawn Curry (RM29)and highly recommended Smoothie Breakfast Bowl (RM24).
Japanese Omelette RM24
While there’s nothing much to mention for Summergirl’s super simple breakfast, Summerkid’s Japanese omelette is rather interesting with myriad of flavours in it – a combination of shimeiji mushrooms, cured sea bass sashimi, bean sprouts, Japanese cucumber, crispy vermicelli noodles, confit cherry tomatoes, Japanese mayo, miso dressing served with toast.
Cappuccino RM11
For beverage, you can hardly go wrong with coffee here, be it a long balck, cappuccino, latte, flat white, piccolo or filter coffee. Other drinks choices are teas like English Breakfast, Early Grey, Jasmine Green Tea, Oolong Rose Tea, Chamomile Blossom Tea, fresh juices, hot choclate, chai latte.
Kaya Matcha Latte RM13
Had Kaya Matcha Latte. Pretty good matcha base – strong but not overly bitter, silky smooth forthed milk and soothing drinking temperate. Despite the pale taste of kaya, we find it a little too sweet for our liking.
Overall review: Total bill came to RM68. High marks on the interior, friendly service and good coffee but food wise, can be a hit and miss. Not too sure what’s wrong with our rather “watery” scrambled egg and not-so-happy-looking vegetables. But is OK la. Maybe still new. We look forward to improved quality and taste in our next visit.
