Purple Miao is now relocated to Wisma Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
Address: G-03 Ground Floor, Wisma Bukit Bintang, 28, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Update As of Jan 2018)
Purple Miao Ampang 紫喵咖啡早餐店, a cafe located by the road side of Kampung Baru Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. You can easily miss it out if don’t pay attention to buildings at both sides, but if you do, spot for a purple colour van, plus adorable cat drawn on it when you drive along Jalan Merdeka.
The shop, or more like a kiosk, is run by down-to-earth owners who are busy all the time, but never fail to carry smiles on his face. They opened as early as 6.30AM but closed by noon, because as the cafe named itself, it is 早餐店, or breakfast shop. Lunch is not served. So be early or be sorry.
Modern contemporary design doesn’t count here, all you can trace down is none other but zakka style decorations with wooden panels painted in rustic colours as background walls;
Zink roofs and big trees forming shades, and green plants that seem to crawling soon onto dining table. Aura of calm that makes us slowing down the pace in the hustle city. There’s only 2 school-like wooden tables and 1 rattan sofa for dine-in customers in Purple Miao. So you may want to ask for take away, especially during peak hours and when queue starts building up. Also, bring your own container. Your tiny effort to protect the environment counts.
Cold Milk Coffee RM8.50
Purple Miao menu is fairly simple – egg crepe, sandwich, coffee, hot tea. That’s it. Nothing impress? Hang on. They prepare their own purple sweet potato paste, blend their own tomato sauce, stir-fried their own sesame, and “pop-up” special sandwich, salad, pancake or anything that surprise you on the filling from time to time. They try their best to prepare most ingredients from scratch despite the small menu and mini space in order to present a freshest, loving breakfast to each diner.
Sunny Side Up with Chicken Floss Sandwich RM10.50
Green Onion Egg Crepe (RM5.50, Cheese Chicken Floss Egg Crepe (RM9.50), Egg Toast (RM6.50), Sunny Side Up Egg Sandwich (RM6.50), Cheese Egg Toast (RM7.50), Tofu Chicken Patty (RM8.50), Sesame Tofu (RM7.50) and Sunny Side Up with Chicken Floss Sandwich (RM10.50) are food you can get here in time being. We went for the most expensive – Sunny Side Up with Chicken Floss Sandwich. Expecting to have plenty of chicken floss stuffed within, and a fried egg with runny egg yolk oozing into bread. Yeap, fulfilled but the unexpected part, there’s fresh passion fruit pulp sandwiched within, super match with the mayo so the entire flavour is level up. Haha. Simplicity with “detailed touch”.
Green Onion Egg Crepe RM5.50
Green Onion Egg Crepe reminds us about the “dan bing” we had in Taiwan. Chewy, filled with aroma of egg and heavy taste from green onion. Taste of green onion will linger in your mouth for a while, so you may want to opt for chicken floss egg floss instead if this is not your cup of tea.
Total price for our breakfast came to a RM23.50, because they are having a set of Green Onion Egg Crepe + Beverage for RM13. Not too shabby for heart-warming breakfast in a cozy road side cafe huh?
