ICC Pudu KL is now the new location of Imbi Market (Next to Pudu Plaza KL), and we had a really bad experience at the Ah Weng Koh Kopitiam.
When Imbi Market gives way to development, again, for the second time in “her life”, it is hard to tell whether this move will turn the market better, or worse. A mix of both, we would say. The new Imbi Market in ICC Pudu is undoubtedly cleaner, more spacious with a touch of modern charm but this also means that, the traditional pasar ambience is no longer there.
ICC Pudu, or Integrated Commercial Centre Pudu, which combines a wet market, food court (Medan Selera), multi-purpose hall, banquet hall and car park, has opened its door to public few months ago. Besides giving brand new look for Imbi market, its additional facilities also provide convenience for indoor recreational activities, events and functions in near future.
We visited ICC Pudu last week, and felt that people flocked here for food more than buying vegetables, raw meat, fruits and so forth. The market is one floor down the food court, and many of the stalls are not opened yet. We didn’t like the new food court. Just one thing good, most of the famous food stalls have gathered again in one new place, and you do not have to seek high and low to search for their whereabout.
Ah Weng Koh Hainan Kopitiam 阿榮哥海南茶檔 shocked us with their crowd. Located just after the main entrance, this kopitiam now has their own shop, separate from all other food stalls. Customers who visit Ah Weng Koh can order only coffee and food from the shop. You can still enjoy their ever popular Hainan coffee with Ah Weng Chee Cheong Fan, Sam Kee Wantan Mee, Curry Mee, Kampong Chicken Rice here, but if you want to get Yeng Jie Curry Noodles, Ah Fok Chee Cheong Fun or Lin Jie Wantan Mee, you will need to proceed to the Medan Selera.
Bad experience at Ah Weng Koh Kopitiam
We stopped at Ah Weng Koh Hainan Kopitiam for kopi, toast and soft boiled egg but ended up leaving with anger. We understood that business was at brisk, so we waited. After a while, no one bother us. So Summerkid decided to walk to the front for ordering. And staff told us: “sit back and raise your hand. We will come” . OK lo, sit back and continued to wait. We raised our hand but no one approach us. In the end we raised our voice to one of the staffs. He came over but took order for customers sitting next to us. Summerkid took the chance to take orders too. “Lou sai, one ice kopi and…”. Before even Summerkid finished his sentence, the uncle left. Us: “……………”
Our kopi came, it was hot, not iced. Summerkid repeated his order again to the uncle VERY QUICKLY, he left in a blink. So we had to tell another staff that we wanted cold and not hot. And so she replied: “If you want iced then you tell when you order ma..you don’t know tell de meh? “. We said we did, then she still can replied: “You said louder ma, else how people know.”. OK fine, whatever we said, still our fault. So we kept quiet. She took away the kopi with not so happy face.
Uncle came back with soft boiled egg, and realized the kopi disappeared. Then he asked us: “have you ordered?”. This is such a funny question. We ordered from you then you brought over the soft boiled egg then you asked have we ordered? So we answered: “yes, we ordered but asked for change of kopi because you gave us hot”. Didn’t think he was listening, but he took the soft boiled egg away. Again, Us: “?????????”
The uncle passed by again. We reminded him our order and he answered: “If you ordered from me then why order from others again, now I do not want to take your order”. Then walked away. Hello? We ordered from you and you gave us wrong. You got angry because we asked another staff to change the wrong kopi you sent over? Plus treated it as “who ask you order from another person again”??. In the end, both the toast and soft boiled egg didn’t arrive. We walked to the uncle and paid RM2.40 for our Hainan Kopi then left.
What a super duper arrogant service. We understood that you are having super good business but this doesn’t mean that you need to show face to your customer. Taking another few seconds to listen to customers’ order won’t hurt. Or you jote down properly. If wrong, just change, do not have to put the blame back to your customers with impolite words for simple things. We always accept no smile- kopitiam-style service, plus this is not our first time to Ah Went Koh Kopitiam. They are always rude but this round, they are a bit over with their words.
Ginger Wine Egg Noodles
Too much complains. Enough. Walked in to the Medan Selara and started to look for our Ying Jeh Curry Mee 英姐咖喱面, but it was closed for holiday. Chee Cheong Fun and Traditional Pan Mee also closed. So we ordered the much talked about Ginger Wine Egg Noodles 姜蛋酒米綫. A little too salty for our liking, and lack of wine flavours. Summerkid’s mum makes a way better stir fried ginger egg wine soup.
Had an order of Lin Jie Wantan Mee 蓮姐云吞面. Waited for more than half hour in the queue for a plate of wantan mee, served in polystyrene plate. Staffs were too busy to clean up their plates so our wantans had no soup hahaaha. Doesn’t matter anymore. At least, you get your noodles on the spot, and skipped the problems of not getting your chance back, or order never reach issue, like what happened to the Ginger Wine Noodles stall. Tastewise, the noodles are good, thin and springy but for the sauce, lack of sweetness plus a little oily.
Overall review: We will not come back to this place unless needed. The Ah Weng Koh Hainan Kopi Shop attitude is bad enough, the worst service ever. Ventilation can be improved in Medan Selera. For parking, currently, you can park inside Pudu Plaza or the opened car park next to ICC Pudu KL.
