Tsujiri – The more than 150 years old matcha expert from Kyoto Japan has finally made its way to Malaysia, having Malaysia first Tsujiri outlet in Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya. The matcha lover Summergirl couldn’t be happier, dragging Summerkid for matcha parfait last weekend afternoon.
We were told that Tsujiri is located right across Texas Chicken Malaysia but shame to say, we actually had no idea where this famous fast food chain is. Went around the area, only to know later that it is just two doors away from our favourite Miru Dessert Cafe that serves nice Shibuya honey toast, same row with Hail’s Softserve Ice Cream too. Hmm…having to say, Damansara Uptown is overloaded with dessert cafes by now.
A little bit about Tsujiri : Tsujiri is a Japanese traditional tea brand, established in year 1860 by Riemon Tsuji in Uji in Kyoto, Japan. For over one and a half century, they have been serving good quality green tea leaves in all their products, taking on traditional methods to ensure best flavours and aroma for their tea.
O-Matcha Shiratama RM16.50
Holding on the philosophy of “continue to innovate and sustain the tradition”, Tsujiri menu now covers from traditional O-Matcha to matcha-infused sweet treats including matcha ice blended, matcha float, matcha parfait, matcha shaved ice to matcha soft ice cream.
Since Tsujiri Malaysia is still new, some items may not be available but it is fine for us. We went in two so there wasn’t any plan to order a series of matcha drinks and food then walked out having matcha coma. LOL. Had O-Matcha Shiratama (RM16.50) from Parfait Selection this time, add on RM4.80 of promotional price for Houjicha Soft Ice Cream Cone recommended by the friendly staff.
O-Matcha Shiratama put together kanten jelly at the bottom, then matcha soft serve, red bean, followed by more swirls of Tsujiri soft ice cream, Shiramtama Dango and a touch of Kinako soy bean powder on top. Rich, very creamy, smooth finish, blending in pleasing matcha aroma, almost no trace of bitterness. Perfect teatime dessert for a scorching hot weather.
Houjicha Soft Ice Cream Cone RM6.50
Summerkid loves Tsujiri Houjicha Ice Cream over Matcha Ice Cream, as it is lighter in taste, with subtle roasted flavour to complete. Add RM2 of Japanese mochi, Kinako Kuromitsu, red bean, chocolate chips or genmai for toppings if you like.
Must visit for matcha lovers. Till we visit Kyoto Japan, we can first fulfill our matcha craving in Tsujiri Malaysia. Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, China, Canada, and after Malaysia, heard that they will be in Bangkok Thailand and UK soon too.
