Pang’s Kitchen @ Voizsup, Taman Desa KL – Get your Michelin’s Star dining experience here, all the way from Happy Valley, Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Of why 彭慶記食家 Pang’s Kitchen is worth a visit? Pang’s Kitchen Hong Kong has been awarded with One Michelin Star Restaurant for four years in a row, from 2012 to 2016. This eatery certainly doesn’t receive such glory for no reason. That says, thanks to their consistency in serving the best homecooked Cantonese cuisine throughout the 15 years. And now, it is a pleasure that the restaurant has landed in Malaysia, allowing us to savour some of their delicious, traditional Chinese fares.
Sweet & Sour Pork with Strawberry 士多啤梨生吵骨 RM28.00
Opening up the menu, we had a hard time deciding what to eat, as there is close to 100 dishes ( or more, we lost count ) to choose from. Getting the staff to help out save the hassle, as they always know better. Sweet & Sour Pork with Strawberry is must order, signature of Pang’s Kitchen. Akin to our Gu Lou Yuk, further flavoured up with fruity hints of berry and hawthorn.
Crispy Chicken with Garlic 金牌蒜香雞 RM35/half, RM70/whole
In case you are looking for roasted meat, Crispy Chicken with Garlic probably is the closest version you can get in Pang’s Kitchen, since they don’t serve Hong Kong style roasted pork, roasted duck and char siew. Crispier skin compared to normal roasted chicken, smooth chicken meat, complete with a touch of deep fried, garlicky goodness.
Congee with Shredded Dry Sea Scallop 瑤柱白粥 RM11.80
A visit to Pang’s Kitchen is incomplete without ordering a bowl of congee. We didn’t get the point of ordering this initially, and even at the first few spoonful, we found it rather normal. However, as we went on, flavours began to develop, and it turned up to be “a bowl of addictive porridge”. We re-filled 3 small bowls each after the first, emptying the whole pot in a jiffy.
Stir Fried Kai Lan with Shrimp Paste in Claypot 嘟嘟芥蘭煲 RM25.00
Surprisingly good, noteworthy for the “wok hei” laced along each stalk of Kai Lan. Tasted salted fish? Yeap. But we were told that there was no salted fish in it. Shrimp paste, herbs and spices as seasoning ingredients to make up the flavours.
Braised Bean Curb with Fresh Mushroom 鮮冬菇紅燒豆腐 RM22
Simplest dish on the dinner table, but our top favourite in Pang’s Kitchen. Homemade bean curd is the clear winner. Delicate soft, dressed in a bed of flavourful braised sauce.
Scramble Milk with Scallop 大良炒鮮奶 RM38.00
Traditional Chinese dish, scrambling egg white with scallops to result in subtle soft, creamy smooth chunks of solidify egg white. Add some vinegar for whole new different taste, enhancing the entire flavours. Pang’s Kitchen get it just nice, not too old, not rubbery for the egg. Eat while it is hot.
Stir Fried Fish Fillet with Ginger 姜蔥斑片煲 RM35
Fish fillet rubbed with basic marination, stirred fried with ginger and onion in claypot receives most praises from Summerkid, but Summergirl personally feel that it will taste better with salt amount reduced.
Steamed Crab with Sticky Rice 荷葉糯米蒸蟹 Market Price
Crab is tempting, but the sticky rice is better. Sweetness of seafood plus tinge of aroma from deep fried chopped garlic, layering over the steamed sticky rice. Hearty portion, enough to fit three pax.
In short, Pang’s Kitchen offers extensive food selections, reasonable price. Ideal place in Taman Desa KL for family dining, or dinner gathering for office staffs nearby.
