As the Mid-autumn Festival draws near, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur unveils a splendid assortment of 10 artisanal snow skin and baked mooncakes at the Best Muslim-Friendly Chinese Restaurant award winner, Tao Chinese Cuisine, with three new creations this year, helmed by Master Dim Sum Chef Lo Tian Sion’s 30 years of experience in extensive cultural expertise and modern culinary innovation. The 2024 Mystic Delight Mid-Autumn Collection features festive gift boxes in two variations — the Mystic Radiance Lantern Box and the Mystic Splendour Premium Box.
The Mystic Radiance box comes inclusive of an LED tea light candle that transforms the box into a lantern, illuminating the halls of your homes with the warm glow of this celestial celebration, while the Mystic Splendour Premium Box comes with a tea canister of Tao’s Signature Black Tea.
The lantern design on the Mystic Splendour and Mystic Radiance gift boxes was curated through a partnership with the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists Association (MFPA), an international for-profit association wholly owned by differently-abled artists to help them meet their financial needs. The chosen artwork is an original piece by footpainter, Mohd Khairuddin Bin Che Rani, reproduced with kind permission from the MFPA.
Dubbed “Strong Light”, it is an ode to Chinese culture, reminiscent of his time growing up in Kelantan with his Chinese friends and neighbours, and his inspiration from Chinese television shows. In crafting the piece he hoped to represent the harmonious acknowledgement and appreciation of Malaysia’s diverse cultural landscape.
At a tender age, Encik Khairuddin mastered the art of brush strokes using his foot, experimenting on canvas, paper, and cloth by honing his craft in school. His work has been featured in numerous art exhibitions, including the Market Place for Creative Art showcase at the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum at the Kuala Lumpur Conference Centre. Despite being born without arms, he persevered against all odds, creating beautiful artworks painted using only his feet.
Guests can come and view Encik Khairuddin’s masterpieces at the pop-up art gallery at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur’s lobby from 1 to 7 September. He will also be showcasing his artistic talent with a live painting session. Members of the public are free to lend their support to this homegrown talent by making a purchase. All proceeds go to Encik Khairuddin.
The 2024 collection features the return of last year’s highly coveted mooncakes, the Almond & Sweet Potato Baked Skin, Musang King Durian Snow Skin with Oats and the Butterfly Pea Flower Snow Skin with Bird’s Nest and White Lotus Paste, including the three new flavours, the Baked Skin Dragon Fruit Paste with Black Sesame Mochi, Lemon Snow Skin with Hawthorn Cherry Jelly & Green Tea Paste as well as the Red Safflower Snow Skin with Shredded Coconut Paste & Salted Egg Cream.
