While Golden Duck – YEN W Kuala Lumpur’s rendition of Peking Duck lathered in gold has always been the star dish of this Cantonese restaurant, their modern Chinese cuisine with modern twist menu has more to discover, including dim sum. And, do you know that YEN W Kuala Lumpur actually offers a-la carte dim sum buffet on weekend, for brunch? It is the best time indulge in ultimate array of dim sum – wholeheartedly, unlimited, at one price.
We arranged for a visit last Saturday for their dim sum buffet, and come to a conclusion that we will surely revisit! From the imperial ambiance elevated by an avant-garde dining concept to delicious bite-sized delights and friendly services, YEN W Kuala Lumpur ticks all the boxes. Their all-you-can-eat menu covers a nice selection of Steamed Dim Sum, Fried & Bake Dim Sum, Steamed Rice Roll, Soup, Vegetables & Beancurd, Rice Noodles, Sweet Temptations.
In contrary to some other dim sum buffets we had before, where dim sum is served in “default” way – such as 3 siew mai in a basket, 3 Deep Fried Beancurd Roll in a plate; at YEN, you get to “itemize” your portion for certain dishes. You can order 1 piece of siew mai, 1 wu kok, 1 dumpling. We love this practice, as we get to enjoy our food to the fullest, yet minimizing wastage. So don’t be shy to ask about the portion size during your visit. Staffs is more than happy to assist.
We started with Steamed Dim Sum, trying out our all-time-favourite, TOP 3 must-have – Siew Mai, Har Gao, and Braised Phoenix Claws. Despite being pork-free, the chef and team did a great job with the chicken & prawn fillings, flavours enhanced with Hokkaido Dried Scallop. Crystal Prawn Dumpling, Morel Mushroom tastes pretty standard though. We also had Traditional Glutinous Rice with Abalone, Steamed Fish Ball with Aged Mandarin Peel, Steamed Prawn & Chicken Bean Curd Roll.
Crispy Yam Dumpling with Chicken & Edamame;
Crispy Cod Fillet Roll with Cheese;
Wok-fried Raddish Cake, Sakura Shrimps, Supreme Chili Sauce
For deep fried items, we recommend Crispy Yam Dumpling with Chicken & Edamame; Crispy Cod Fillet Roll with Cheese; Wok-fried Raddish Cake with Bean Sprouts, Sakura Shrimps, Supreme Chili Sauce, Crispy Bean Curd Roll with Lobster & Seafood, Water Chestnut; Crispy Vegetarian Spring Roll; and Pan Fried Bean Curd Roll with Local Organic Vegetables.
Do not leave without having Braised Phoenix Claws, Peanuts, Abalone Sauce! One of the best we have ever tried in KL dim sum places. Beautifully braised into tender, gelatinous texture, with luscious gravy that we don’t mind tossing it with noodles or rice. Second helping, why not?
Steamed Crystal Prawn Rice Roll with Homemade Sambal Paste;
Braised Szechuan Hot & Sour Soup, Snow Crab Meat, Aged Vinegar;
Daily Chef’s Choice Double Boiled Soup
Steamed Crystal Prawn Rice Roll with Homemade Sambal Paste; Steamed Rice Roll with Assorted Vegetables; Cod Fish Congee, Shredded Chicken Congee with Century Egg; Braised Szechuan Hot & Sour Soup, Snow Crab Meat, Aged Vinegar; Daily Chef’s Choice Double Boiled Soup are quite generous even though in single portion. So order wisely. If there’s only one to choose, we will definitely go for Double Boiled Soup – so nourishing, tummy-warming.
Many might say that you should skip rice & noodles in a buffet as it will fill up your stomach space quickly. So we ordered only a small Stewed Ee Fu Noodles with Minced Prawns, Mushroom, Dried Ground Flounder initially, just to try if their stir-fry dishes are good.
Ended up it is so tasty that we couldn’t help but to order their Wok Fried Rice with Diced Chicken and Supreme Chilli Sauce too. No regret. So flavorful, full of wok hei. Yumms.
Dessert time is always the happiest moments. Ordered everything on their Sweet Temptations menu – Chinese Pancake, Lotus Seed Paste; Baked Caramel Egg Tart; Milk Pudding, Truffles, Honey Comb, Chilled Aloe Vera, Lemongrass Infused Ai-Yu Jelly, Natural Peach Resin, Yuzu Pearl; Black Sesame Seed Dumpling in Ginger Soup. Baked Caramel Egg Tart is unexpectedly delish. Buttery, flaky, lightly crisp outside; melt-in-mouth filling plus a paper-thin, caramelized layer.
Before we forget, for the price of MYR168nett per adult, one portion of 6 head abalone is included. *Subject to change
