Japanese Yakiniku lovers, rejoice! Asumo has finally arrived at SS15 Subang Jaya, welcoming you to savor up to 10 kinds of premium Japanese wagyu – charcoal grilled, omakase style.
Kyomo, ITSUMO, KinGyu – If all these three famous Japanese restaurants are no strangers to you, then you should check out Asumo SS15, the latest Japanese Yakiniku restaurant in town. Run by the team behind these reputable establishments, ASUMO aims to reach out to a broader dining crowd with their Halal-certified wagyu, offering high quality meat at affordable price.
Spacious restaurant that spans across 4 floors; dark tone modern contemporary interior layered with wooden elements, completing with soft, warm lighting to create atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. Love the sparkling chandelier that graces the entrance, adding a touch of grandeur and artistic elegance to the restaurant.
We always like their thoughtful approach in partitioning the space for more exclusive dining experience – just like in Kyomo and KinGyu. And in Asumo, they have over 20 individual and private rooms. They also invests a lot in perfecting the ventilation system, so that diners can indulge in their grilled delights at ease, without worrying about leaving the restaurant smelling like burnt-smoky meat.
Asumo SS15’s menu highlights is the omakase wagyu platter, along with hot dishes – that surprisingly, very delicious! When they mention Omakase, it means that diners will leave it to the chef to decide what are the best cuts to be served, base on the availability.
In other words, instead of ordering a specific cut like short rib, akami, kata rosu, rump, etc.., orders are go by weight. For example, you can order 200g portion that comes with 4 different parts; 400g portion with 8 different parts, 600g wagyu with 10 different parts, 800 g with 10 different parts, 1000g wagyu with 10 different parts.
If you visit in 2pax like us, suggest to go for 200g with 4 different parts, then add on few other special beef dishes, rice, noodles, or soup. Not to forget – Asumo Signature Beef Tongue.
Personally, we highly recommend:
Sea Urchin on Seared Sirloin RM35/ spoon
15 Second Rib loin RM35
5 Assorted Kimuchi RM20
Kale Salad RM25
Wagyu Tendon Stew RM28
Wagyu Meatball RM13
Sweet Potato Chips RM18
Garlic Rice RM21
Egg Soup RM16
“Diamond Thick Cut” Tongue RM22
“Premium” Tongue /2 pcs RM32
The reason why Asumo can keep the price affordable is the way they source their wagyu. Instead of purchasing just few parts of the wagyu, Asumo imports the whole cattle – make good use of every inch of the meat, expand their recipe repertoire beyond just yakiniku while allowing diners to enjoy more parts of the wagyu. Even if you are not in the mood for yakiniku, you can still come by to enjoy their signature dishes.
Australian Beef
Japanese Wagyu
Besides Japanese wagyu omakase, what sets Asumo apart is, they also serve beef from Australia. So what we did is we also order a small portion of Australian beef, grilled and compared with the Japanese wagyu. Nice, but clearly, can’t beat the tender, buttery goodness of Japanese wagyu.
Save some tummy space for Sweet Potato Spring Roll with Ice Cream (RM13) – one of the best seller desserts in Asumo.
Pudding (RM13) is equally lovely too – steamed at 89 degree celsius for 19minutes, finished with a quick torch at its surface before serving. Smooth, aromatic, melt in the mouth.
