Sous Vide Abalone Noodles with Avruga Caviar, Grilled Beef with Sea Cucumber, Alaskan Pan Fried Cod with Salted Egg Lotus Roots – when we see these on Savour by GEST menu, we know that we have to give this place a visit.
Located at the ground floor of Glo Damansara Shopping Mall, Savour by GEST is one of the latest, yet most-talked about dining destinations in KL since the restaurant opens their door to public in last December 2022. The kitchen is helmed by a team of young, talented and enthusiastic chefs – who go extra miles in creating a series of modern European-base recipes, further incorporated with Asian twist.
Despite the mall is quiet with sad foot traffic, Savour by GEST doesn’t seem to get affected by this, at all. Amazing dining crowd especially during dinner hours, half filled when we arrived at 6PM last Sunday, full house by 7PM. Highly recommended to make reservation ahead to avoid disappointment.
We had 2 starters, 2 main courses, and a dessert for our dinner at Savour by GEST. Started with Fried Crab Cakes (RM38)– mud crab meat with homemade seasoning rolled into small sphere, breaded and deep fried to golden brown. Topped with tomato relish. Thin crunchy outer layer, followed by moist, meaty filling as we bite through. Delicious on its own, more flavours when pair with the creamy, yet appetizing Rémoulade cold sauce.
Hotate Ceviche (RM38) – our second starter, continued to impress. Thinly sliced hotate dressed in aged shoyu, scallion oil, truffle oil, garnished with Avruga Caviar. Enjoy and savour slowly – light, refreshing, pleasing umami-ness, with every ingredient come into good balance.
Grilled Beef with Sea Cucumber (RM138)- Summerkid’s long awaiting main course at Savour by GEST. He has been saying that he wanted to have this for weeks, and he is quite lucky that he got it on his birthday month. LOL.
Beautifully grilled to medium rare sirloin aside, what takes the limelight here is the creativity that placed in. Instead of pairing them the usual way with steak fries, Savour by GEST accompanies the meat with braised sea cucumber, shallot glazed potatoes, sauteed brussle sprouts, and the best part – beef jus to finish.
Next, we had Seafood Bouillabaisse that put together prawn dumplings and myriad of seafood including squid, prawns, grouper; and grilled Chinese leek. Still trying to appreciate this dish, but perhaps will check out Duck Confit, Seafood Risotto, Truffle Chicken Fas and Sous Vide Abalone Noodles instead for next visit.
Summergirl literally doesn’t want to share this 5 Spice Poached Pear (RM25) when comes to dessert. Moist poached chinese pear with hints of cinnamon and star anise, served with ice cream and almond tea. Molten Cake with Coffee Soil, Mix Summer Berries, Chantilly Cream and Ice Cream; Aged Mandarin Creme Brulee with Aged Mandarin skin infuesed with cream, icing sugar and cakes of the day are available too to round up the meal sweet.
Personally, we enjoyed our experience at Savour by GEST a lot. Nice ambience, friendly service, and most importantly – creative flavours. Great for celebrations like birthday, anniversary, gathering, or on casual days when you feel like you want to splurge a little on good food, yet at the price which is not too “fine dining”.
*Do note that Savour by GEST has different menu during lunch.
