While Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur is well-known for their award-winning SkyBar with spectacular view of KLCC, the newly relaunched Bara On Six – a contemporary grill, osyter and gin bar located on the 6th floor of the hotel, is worth discovering too.
Casual yet sophisticated, Bara On Six serves fine steak cuts, in-house dry-aged steak, local seafood and a selection of craft gins with a touch of Malaysian influences. What makes Bara On Six more noteworthy is how they appreciate and pay homage to the intricate flavours of Malaysia, sourcing high quality ingredients such as caviar, vegetables, poultry, etc.. – locally, being sustainable as they possibly can.
Bara On Six is using kale from SunwayX, a vertical hydrophonic farm in Kuala Lumpur City Centre itself; tomato from Cameran Highlands; Cacao Chocolate from the Pahang region, coffee beans from Sungai Pelek, Sepang; poultry from free-reange farm in Tapah, Perak; Caviar from Tanjung Malim, Perak; as well as seafood supply from various fish farms in the country.
We really enjoyed the Grilled Farm Tiger Prawns from Kuala Selangor Farm. Fresh, bouncy and meaty – generous in size too, flavours elevated with Capsicum Chermoula spreaded on top. Paired with Highland Mesclun Salad. Do check out their Kedah Rock Salt Baked on Pulau Pangkor Whole Seabass, Roasted Tapah Free-Range Chicken too.
On the thoughtful side, Bara On Six also offers alternative dietary options, inspired by a healthier lifestyle. Take this Tricolor Summer Quinoa for example, it is a healthy, colorful vegan-friendly starter, putting together pomegranate, sweet corn, cucumber, capsicum, chickpeas, radish, raspberry dressing. Hydroponic Sunway X Curly Kale Salad, Roasted Cameron Highland Tomato Soup, Vegetable Medley are among the meatless choices too.
We also accompanied our meal with fresh shucked oyster. There is a variety of osyters to choose from, each carrying a unique flavours developed by their locality and they way they were grown. Grass-fed Tomahawk, Striploan, Rib Eye, Tenderloin – pick your favourite, Or you can go for Stanbroke Wagyu Sanchoku, with a Marbling of 5 to 7. Another highlight on Bara On Six has to be their dry-aged steak, with cuts dry-aged for 35/42/45 days to develop stronger, more intense flavours, at the same time resulting in more tender meat.
For lunch, sides and sauces are pre-selected, while for dinner, you can choose one side and one sauce from the list – Raisin Almond Quinoa Pilaf, Garlic Polenta, Lentil Ragout, Grilled Asparagus, Honey Glaze Cameron Carrot, Sauteed Wild Mushroom, Truffle Fries, Roasted Potatoes for Sides; Prunes Mulled Wine Emulsion, Genting Herbs Chimichurri, Sarawak Pepper Corn, Grain Mustard & Coriander Spice Jus, Apple Basamic Jus, Mushroom for Sauce.
Sweet finish! We had Log Koko – Pahang Artisanal Chocolate Log Brulee, Cinnamon Gelato; and Coconut Creme Brulee with Crystalised Candied Ginger. Love the latter, very refreshing and light.
You can pair your meal with a glass or two of cocktails, or adjourn to the bar after your dinner to have some drinks while enjoying the beautiful KLCC view. Nice place for lunch and dinner, affordable price too.
