To be honest, by now, we already sort of lost count on the amount of cafes and restaurants blooming in Chow Kit area. New eateries are opening like every few weeks, and those current ones still standing strong, thanks to the quality, as well as nostalgic food that brings back memories. Yut Kee Restaurant, Kooky Cream, 103 Coffee, Tapestry, Bricks & bread, Joloko, Kappo Takebayashi, Limapulo, Licky Chan & The Poke Guy, Pizzeria Dihyang, Kongu Kongu, Base Camp KL, Wagyu Master Malaysia- the list goes on, and the latest one would be TheBackroom Coffee.
Located along Jalan Doraisamy, the beautiful heritage row which also houses Yarl, Common Grind, Heritage Pizza, Kwong Cheung Loong Kopitiam Bar, TheBackroom Coffee stands out not only on the sleek, modern design, but also specialty coffee, cakes and savories – a menu crafted with lots of passion.
Spacious cafe that put together the old and new, highlighting contemporary design in black-greyish and white tone, while keeping the heritage beauty of the space itself.
Coffee takes the limelight here, with two beans options during our visit- Brazil Santos (nutty, milk chocolate, butterscotch) and Ethiopia Bombe Gatta G1 (melons & berries, floral, maple syrup). Enjoy in espresso, black or white. You can also go for Filter coffee, or Experiment Series concocted with more flavours. Espresso Tonic – espresso, homemade pear syrup, tonic water; Soul Lab – espresso, calamansi, coconut, fuji apple, kiwi oolong tea; Coconut Mango Latte – espresso, mango, coconut, milk and cream are some of them.
Savory food menu is limited for now, not sure if they would expand to have more choices in new future. Check out Kyoto Apple Curry Karaage Rice Bowl, Sichuan Mala Karaage, Salsa Coriander Prawn Rice, Soft Shell Crab Miso Fried Rice, Creamy Dill Salmon Rice, Mixed Berries Sourdough, Teriyaki Prawn with Cherry Cheese Sourdough, Salmon Benedict Soudough, and Mushroom Cream Sourdough (alcohol). Price range – around RM22 to RM32.
