Momaku x BaristArt Coffee at Bangsar BSC, currently the only cafe in Malaysia that serves Hokkaido Biei Jersey Milk.
We still remember the cold, chilly morning in Sapporo, where we walked from our hotel near Nijo Market, all the way for more than 1KM to BaristArt Hokkaido, just to have a taste of their legendary latte – prepared using milk from different regions in Hokkaido. Even though Baristart Sapporo is just a small cafe with very limited seats, their coffee is truly amazing. You can choose to have BIEI Jersey milk, TOKACHI Jersey milk, Guernsey Milk or HAKODATE milk for your latte. That creamy, rich cup of coffee is just so memorable.
When Baristart Coffee opened in Singapore, how we wish that Malaysia could have one soon. Fast forward to 2022, the brand finally makes their way to Kuala Lumpur, having their first outlet at Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC). We literally can’t hold our excitement when we heard about our news.
Different from the BaristArt Coffee Sapporo that we went to, BaristaArt Coffee Malaysia occupies a spacious lot, proudly in collaboration with Momaku – an artisanal place that houses a wide range of artwork, handcrafted pieces, beautiful souvenirs. You can buy them home if you want to, and this include art pieces hanging on the wall.
We really love this coffee x art space. It is cozy, inviting, thoughtfully designed in warmth tone with lots of wooden elements.
Coming to food and beverage, BaristArt menu doesn’t disappoint. While they only have coffee when the cafe is just opened, now they have expanded the menu to have also sweet & savoury for all-day-dining. Breakfast, brunch or dinner or merely a teatime coffee session – come by anytime.
Sweet Jars – Custard Pudding, Coffee Pudding, Strawberry Pudding, Mango Pudding
Dirty Latte, Matcha Latte
BaristArt Coffee takes pride in using milk imported from Biei Hokkaido, highlighting the exceptional creaminess, richness of the mik with a subtle tinge of sweetness – perfect for milk coffee, dessert, and savories. The Biei Jersey Milk actually comes from a specific breed of cows in Japan, that has only a population of 800 in the whole of Japan. In other words, this makes up barely 1% of the cow population.
Check out from Avocado Toast & Eggs to Egg White Souffle, Egg Benedict on French Toast, Rosti Beef Bomb, Ovenight Oats, Acai Bowl, Caramelized Brick Frnech Toast, Summer Berries. Their sandwich selections, which include Truffle Cheese Toastie, Chicken Katsu Sando, Classic Roast Beef Sandwich, Beef Sukiyaki Sando and Tamago Mayo Sando, are big hit among the diners too.
What’s better is, the cafe has recently launch new items on their menu, serving rice bowl from 12noon onwards. Enjoy either Beef Cube Bowl, Mixed Tempura Bowl, Ocean Trout Dashi Soup Bowl, Bebek Tepi Bangsar Bowl and Nasi Lemak Rice Bowl if you would like to have some hot, comfort food. We sampled Beef Cube Rice Bowl – stir fried Japanese-style Devasa Argentinian Sirloain steak with mixed rice, garlic butter and onzen egg yolk. Suggest to order a dessert to go with, for a balanced, sweet ending.
Acai Bowl – Acai sorbet served with granola, muesli, seeds, nuts, rainbow assortment of fruits.
Caramelized Brick French Toast. Available in Classic – served with a side of bruleed cream, butter and maple syrup; or Dulce Leche – served with a side of bruleed cream, caremelized banana & dulce leche. We also tried some of the sweet treats here, available from the dessert counter.
Cream Puff is a must-try. Some said that the price is on the high side for a cream puff but we find this acceptable for the size, plus Biei Jersey milk is used for the cream. Love the light yet crisp outer layer, burst with rich, creamy filling as we bite through.
We highly recommend BaristArt Coffee Nutella Milk Cake Slice if you like soft, sponge-cake texture dessert. This dessert is close to tiramisu, with its own uniqueness thanks to high butterfat and protein content of Biei Jersey milk. A mini-jug of milk is served aside, pour on it and get ready to indulge. Apparently our top-pick.
Kuma Parfait. Such a cute dessert in the shape of bear! Layering strawberry, cream, ice cream, cake crumbs, white chocolate for satisfyingly sweet indulgence.
Overall, we had a nice dining experience at BaristArt Coffee Malaysia. Even though we can’t choose the milk type we want like in Japan, but we are grateful to be able to sip on milk beverage and treats prepared with Biei Hokkaido milk. Caramelized Brick French Toast, Cream Puff , Nutella Milk Cake Slice are our favorite.
