Hakurin TTDI KL, come for their delicious Japanese yakitori and Japas, stay for their sake, sushi and sashimi.
Located same row with The Bread Bar and Topshelf, Hakurin TTDI Kuala Lumpur is a casual, contemporary dining Japanese restaurant famous for their wide selections of yakitori – freshly grilled upon order, using Binchotan charcoal that takes pride for its great balance of smokiness and flavour.
Tabasaki, Tokusei tsukune, Shishito, Hotate, Gyutan, Soft bone
Hakurin menu covers over 35 choices of Yakitori, from tabasaki (chicken wing), tokusei tsukune (meatball), kawa skin, tori teriyaki, sumokuahiru (smoked duck), negima, hatsu (heart), bonjiri (back end), saka saikoro (salmon cube), Tiger ebi, shishamo, gyu tan (ox tongue), bekon enoki (bacon wrapped enoki), kohitsuji (rack of lamb), ehire (string ray), saba shioyaki, sunagimo (gizzard), ninniku maki (skin wrapped garlic), eringi (king mushroom), enoki, okra, satsumaimo (sweet potato), ginnan (gingko nut), nasu (eggplant), shishito (green pepper) – summergirl’s fav!..
…to more interesting tamago mentaiko, special softbone, avocado, boxing mentaiko, whole quail, chochin tori reba, truffled chicken roulade, wagyu foie gras, kanpachi onigri.. and the list continue. Our favourite is Tebasaki (as usual) and Tokusei Tsukune – juicy, meaty, round shape Japanese meat skewer served with teriyaki sauce and fresh yolk.
Moving on we have Japas, or Japanese tapas. Had the two best-seller recommended by the staff, which is Stone-Grilled Beef and Love Bite.
Sirloin steak grilled on hot stone with sauteed potato and chef special sauce, wrapped in aluminium foil, served pipping hot right to your table. Videography worthy when the staff opens up the aluminium foil to reveal the meat goodness within. So get your camera ready. But do be cautious at the same time, as it is quite hot.
Love bite – Love at the first bite – and have everything in one bite to experience the luscious creaminess and unique concoction of grilled unagi, wagyu, egg, pan seared foie gras, caviar. One is definitely not enough. Other Japas on Hakurin menu that you can try out are Yasai Tempura, Tiger Ebi Tempura, Jidori Karaage, Crunchy Soft Shell Crab, Troi Gyoza, Koebi and Ebi Shinjo, just to name a few.
Sashimi Moriawase
Otoro, Chutoro, Akami Sushi
Do not leave without trying Hakurin sushi and sashimi. They are so good! Otoro, chutoro, akami, salmon, kanpachi, amaebi, hotate, uni – enjoy the freshness.
We actually had a hard time deciding which makimono to try as all the 6 options available on the menu look equally delish. Had Unagi Avo Maki in the end. No regret. Layers of ingredients for myriad of flavours and textures. Love how the refreshing creaminess of avocado cut through in between bites of unagi, crabmeat, rice and crispy toppings. Recommended.
If you would like to complete the meal with more substaintial hot food, Hakurin TTDI menu also offers gohan and menrui including Gyu King Don, Gyuniku Ramen, HAkurin Yaki Udon, Ochazuke, Garlic Chahan, Hakuri Japanese Fried Rice, Tamago Mentai Don, Nasu (eggplant) Teriyaki Don. We personally recommend the Gyuniku Ramen. Very comforting bowl of noodle, putting together al-dente ramen in wagyu broth, topped with generous slices of extra tender, juicy beef. Love the clear soup that is clean in taste, yet doesn’t fall short of flavours.
For beverage, Hakurin TTDI highlights a wonderful list of sake list, specially curated to pair with yakitori and Japas. They also have a bar & lounge upstairs, where you can sip on house special cocktails prepared by experienced bartender, shooters, high ball, sake, etc., in a relaxed, laid-back ambience.
Hint: Come by early between 4PM-7PM to enjoy Hakurin Happy Hour, where you can get house-pour white wine, red wine, beer, sake, vodka, gin, tequila, rum at RM15+ per glass! Nice price! *price as of Oct 2022*
