Bug’s Paradise Farm Puchong – Last weekend, we discovered a fun, educational place that is really worth visiting. Especially suitable for family with kids or for those who want to get close to the nature, without having to travel far from Klang Valley.
For the past two years, the pandemic has changed the way we travel. Other than visiting famous historical states, we begin to check-out interesting attractions in the city which are ideal for half-day or 1-Day trip, and the latest one being – Bug’s Paradise Farm in Kampung Pulau Meranti, Puchong.
Located about 30 minutes drive from KL city center, Bug’s Paradise Farm is an organic farm that put together the concept of learning & dining, aiming to inspire people to cherish, protect and appreciate the beauty of nature. They offer family-friendly guided farm tour on weekends, introducing about organic farming through a fun, interactive way. An outdoor activity that kids will love. In fact, it is highly recommended for anyone who wants to know more about this agriculture system.
Another plus point of the farm is its strategic location. Sometimes travelling to other states still require certain early planning like where to stay, what to eat, what to do, etc.. Hence Bug’s Paradise Farm is actually a nice option to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a breathe of fresh air, without having to spend too much time on planning/driving. Whether you are staying in Cheras, Ampang, Kepong, Shah Alam, or even in areas nearer to Puchong like Subang, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya, a short drive of less than an hour can bring you closer to nature.
What to do in Bug’s Paradise Farm:
Generally, Bug’s Paradise Farm is divided into few sections – organic farm, dining space, retail shop. Spacious, opened-air (*except for the retail shop) outdoor concept, opened to public. So you can either reserve for farm tour; or walk-in and have a stroll along the organic farm on your own, enjoy delicious food and purchase vegetables freshly plucked from the farm whenever available.
1. Join the guided tour to learn more about organic farming
For us, we joined the Guided Organic Farm Tour on a Saturday morning. The tour took about an hour, guided by Mr. Zhan Hui. Learn a lot from the session as we were explained with organic plant nursery, organic soil health, soil organisms, green & brown composting, livestock & crops integration system, plant rotation, and most importantly, how this practice can contribute to a healthier planet, produce food in harmony with nature, and nurturing the Mother of Earth in years.
With this non-chemical farming, it hopes to establish a balanced eco-system, going back to the nature with the ability for self-regulatory, self-reproductive.
A tour that both adults and kids will surely learn something. The tour package price is RM38 per person, including a set of healthy steamboat lunch.
Nursery Station
Quick game – worms finding in the soil.
Composting Station – involves the Greens and Browns. Browns refers to dry or woody materials such as dry leaves, newspapers, cardboards, coconut coir while Greens include green material, whereby Brown are wet materials like fruits, veggies leftovers. By combining both at the right ratio for carbon and nitrogen, along with layering technique, the compost will work nicely, heating up at desired temperature.
Currently, Bug’s Organic Farm produces about 10-15 types of vegetables and fruits, like kailan, choy sam, bayam, sweet potato leaves, lettuce, cabbage, French beans, long beans, okra, chilli, corns, mushroom.
2. Pluck Your Own Vegetables
We are allowed to pick one or two matured vegetable as we reached certain station. The tour guide suggested long beans. Asking him if we could eat it straight, he said yes. So we tried. Oh wow, it is sweet, juicy. Ate a small part, save the rest to be added into our hotpot later.
In between, we asked Mr. Zhan Hui what makes him choose to be in the industry, he told us that his passion is strongly influenced by his family, especially his father – who enjoys farming as much as he does. He is young, friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Ask him anything about organic farming, his vision, he will be more than happy to share.
Thank you Mr. Zhan Hui for the session, hope to see you here when we come by again!
3. Plant your own vegetable
Plant your own vegetables! Probably the most interesting part in the tour. Participants can plant their own vegetables, label with their own name then return after a month to harvest them.
4. Walk into the farm and take pictures with plants that are grown as tall as you (*at least ya, as tall as us. Haha)
Standing in between long beans garden which is as tall as (or taller than) Summergirl. Wanted to take pictures with the lady’s fingers flowering plant too but her shoes got sinking into wet soil hahaha. So here’s a picture of the lady’s fingers itself, so beautiful with blooming flowers.
We were told that lady’s fingers is also belongs to the Hibiscus family, under the same family with our National flower, Bunga Raya. Ahh, new knowledge!
P/S: Suggest to ask for permission before you walk-in.
5. Get close with the cute goat, rabbit, parrot, duck, etc.
Bug’s Paradise Farm has a small corner for animals like goat, rabbit, parrot, duck.
Say Hi to Tommy!
Rabbit was hiding somewhere else, couldn’t find it even after we finished our meal.
6. Instagram-worthy corner that you can take pictures with
Do not forget to take pictures with at all these Instagrammable corners as memories. Love the mural at the entrance.
7. Enjoy healthy steamboat right beside the farm
Next, proceed to the restaurant for our healthy steamboat that comes together with the package!
Farm-to-table vegetarian steamboat is such a unique experience! Some of the vegetables in these pot are from the farm right next to us. Fresh, organic, healthy. Cabbage, lettuce, enoki mushroom, tomatoes, tofu, all the healthy goodness in one pot. The set comes with egg, mee sua, homemade chilli sauce and our must-have fresh chopped chilli in soy sauce.
For soup, choose from either spicy pepper, miso, kimchi and kombu. Despite being meat-free soup base, it certainly doesn’t fall short of flavour. In fact, the soup is clean in taste yet flavorful! We finished till the last drop.
For regular steamboat lunch set (without the tour), it is priced at RM25.90.
8. Tuck-into delicious, freshly made vegetarian burger
Other than steamboat, Bug’s Paradise Farm also serves burgers from Veco Burger and pizza from Yooky Bites. Both operates only on Saturday and Sunday. Both burgers and pizzas here have been getting positive reviews from many guests. Some even come all the way to Puchong just for these vegetarian delights.
Veco Burger is dedicated to create a positive change to the environment, encouraging plant-based diet. Vegan burgers are their signature. Try Fishy Cucumber – Vegetarian fish patty, vegan mayo, cucumber radish, hash brown, tomato, green veggie, purple sweet potato bun; or Black Pepper Beetroot – purple sweet potato bun, harvest gourmet patty, black pepper sauce, pickled beetroot, tomato, green veggie. Comes with fries and chilli sauce in a set.
9. Yooky Bites Brick Oven charcoal-baked pizza
Charcoal-baked pizza is from Yooky Bites kiosk. You might need to wait for a while if you are too early, as they need to get the oven heated up before they can start baking the pizza, to achieve that lovely crispy edge and chewy soft center. Good things are worth the waiting.
Currently Organic Pumpkin Sourdough Piza has 4 flavours on the menu- namely Pizza Magherita, Teriyaki Soy Chicken Mushroom (with onion), Honey Cheese, Veggie Lover. We had the first two, and highly recommend the teriyaki Teriyaki Soy Chicken Mushroom.
10. End the meal sweet with Vegan Cakes & Eggless Cheesecake
If you decided to stay longer after the tour’s lunch, consider getting some cakes. Hi-tea session in the farm sounds unique huh? Even if you didn’t join the tour, you can still come by and check out their cakes, chill and unwind.
Look out for Cakes of the Day at the Yooky counter. They had Belgium Dark Chocolate Mousse Vegan Cake, Blueberry Vegan Cake, Matcha Eggless Cheesecake and Mango Eggless Cheesecake during our visit. Vegan cakes here are eggless and dairy free.
11. Sip on not-your-usual Oat Merry bubble milk tea, prepared using oatmilk
Or, sip on Oat Merry Bubble Milk Tea – Bug’s Paradise Farm’s newly launched product! It uses oat milk, a nice switch from the usual bubble milk tea which are normally prepared using fresh milk, Awesome alternative for those with allergies and in tolerances to normal fresh milk.
The team has actually taken quite some time to get the right proportion for their oat milk, and we really like the smooth, creamy taste and more healthy. Had Jasmine Oatmilk Tea with Konjac Jelly Pearl, and Oolong Oatmilk Tea with Konjac Jelly Pearl. Both oh-so-nice.
12. Get some healthy products from BMS Organics retail store

Things to prepare before you visit – Consider yourself lucky if the weather was cool and chilling on your visit day. It rained when we arrived and turned sunny and scorching hot later. Summerkid ended up getting sun burnt. Blame ourselves for not having much preparation as we thought the weather would be alright in the morning but actually, NO. So wear your sunblock, maybe a hat and long sleeves if you want to.
