While the queue at ONO SS2 continues, KONA Bakehouse SS2, Petaling Jaya humbly opens right next to this coffee and matcha specialty store, serving freshly baked goods that would make your cafe hopping trip in this area more worthwhile – if you have enough stomach space to try out awesome food from these two independent cafes.
When many new cafes put a strong focus on interior, KONA Bakehouse on the other hand, keeps their space simple and practical. Nothing extra, just excellent, made-with-love bread, pastries and cake that speaks for itself. Not to forget, decent coffee too.
KONA Bakehouse opens as early as 8AM. It was already fully occupied indoor when we reached there at 9AM. Managed to secure the second last outdoor seat (*thankfully), and proceed to order at the counter.
A beautiful line up of baking goods that we wish to have one each. From Rosemary Chicken Mushroom Quiche to Tuna Bonito Bun, Spring Onion & Cheese Bun, Shio Pan (Must-try!), Taro Butter Scone, Salted Red Bean Scone, Multigrain Cream Cheese Raisin, Sesame Shio Pan, Sweet Potato Pudding Tart, French Butter Croissant, Chocolate Shio Pan, Sea Salt Belgium Chocolate Brownie, Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish, Peach Cream Cheese Danish, Salted Caramel Nutty Danish, Pain au Chocolate, Dark Chocolate Berliner, Raspberry Cream Cheese Berliner.
Had the best seller Japanese-style Shio Pan (*salted bread)- Soft, fluffy bun with paper-thin crispiness, surrounded by buttery goodness and subtle hint of saltiness. Sooo nice. Scone here got “dressed up” too.
Tried a Taro Butter Scone recommended by one of our friends. We called it Gwai Lou version of Polo Bun. Haha.
Drinks list covers coffee, non-coffee and tea. So you get to pair your buns & pastries with flat white, long black, latte, cappuccino, mocha, Belgium Chocolate, Uji Matcha, English breakfast tea, grand earl grey, hibiscus fruit tea, etc..
