When talking about Jalan Sin Chew Kee and nearby, the few things that come into our mind will be the famous Korean-style aesthetic Three Years Old Cafe, award-winning VCR Cafe Jalan Galloway and pork dishes at 8 Haus Cafe. But now, we’ll have one more thing to recommend – Sin Chew Kee Cold Drink Store.
Sin Chew Kee Cocktail Bar is diagonally opposite to Three Years Old Cafe, but would be hard to locate from the outside. Our hint: Don’t bother to look for the signage. Find 8 Haus Cafe, it is right above, upstairs. Don’t be shy, just walk inside.
Sin Chew Kee’s drinks menu is divided into 5 section – Tea Highball, Tea Signature, Tea Classic, Fruit Wine Series and non-tea series. The team put a lot of thought in crafting their cocktails, using tea from East to West. So you get some really fun & cool cocktails here.
One of it will be Ba Zhen Tea RM40, which is named after Chinese Herb 八珍. On the interesting side, there’s no Ba Zhen in this drink. It is actually boiled from over 10 types of herbs (* think bak kut teh herbs) and they found out the end product carries a taste similar to Ba Zhen. Hence, there you go. Try it, with Bak Kwa.
If you like your cocktail refreshing and easy-to-drink, low-ABV options from Fruit Wine Series could be your favorite. They work together with 8 Haus Cafe, created a savory food menu that consists of main dishes, pasta, rice and appetizers to go with their drinks. Come by for dinner, this place fits well. Mango Chicken Chop, Mint Pork Shoulder, Pork Belly Burger, Caramelized Chicken Chop, Roasted Crispy Pork Roulade, Caramilized Ribs XO Linguine, Nasi Lemak Pork Roulade Pork Penne Pasta, Pork Sausage Platter, etc – All seem tasty. We already plan to return for more of these dishes.
Tried Pork Roulade RM20.30. Crispy pork roll served with sweet Thai-dressing and assorted mix grill vegetables, paired with Wild Sour from Tea Classic series. Our top pick cocktail for that evening.
End the meal with a slice of cheesecake. Had together with Peanut Candy RM42 and it was surprisingly matched! Love how the concoction of ANejo Rum infuse toasted peanut & coconut flake, coconut liquer, palm sugar, coconut milk blend well with the rich creaminess of cheesecake. Recommended.
