From Macau to KL with Award-Winning Chef Yap & Chef Chung at Oriental Restaurants

Malaysian-born Chef Yap boasts a culinary career spanning 30 years with five-star luxury hotels and restaurants in Malaysia, Surabaya, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Macao, SAR China. He started off as a traditional dim sum practitioner, and has since taken the helm at the legendary Chinese restaurant Yan Yu in Guangzhou, Grand Dragon Chinese Restaurant in Hangzhou, as well as the world-famous Whampoa Club in Beijing and Shanghai.

His passion, talent and effort are recognized when he received the honour of being named one of “China Top 50 Celebrity Chefs” for Food and Wine Magazine, as well as diamond-rated chef by both the Asian Diamond Chef Association and the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences during his time in Hangzhou.

While for Chef Chung, who hails from Ipoh, carried with him over 30 years of experience in the industry. He began his career humbly Malaysia’s hawker stalls, followed by global resume – from Tokyo to Shanghai, California’s NAPA valley and now, in Macau as executive chef. He is often regarded for his bold, creative take on traditional Chinese cuisine, and had held several accolades including an inclusion into the prestigious Black Pearl Restaurant Guide.

What’s more worth-mentioned is, both chef have cooked for world leaders and celebrated politicians from around the world, which has contributed to their rich experiences from being in the kitchen as top restaurants all over Southeast Asia. So, do not miss out the chance to indulge into nourishing, delicious delicacies specially crafted by the unique four hands.

From Macau to Kuala Lumpur 8-course menu is priced at RM288++ per pax with a minimum 2 pax per booking. Highlight of the menu include Poached Lobster in Chef’s Special Sauce, Crispy Stuffed Sea Cucumber in Spicy Sauce, Black Thorn Durian Glutinous Dumpling and 9 other specialty selected dishes.

We enjoyed every dish served in the evening, and highly recommended BBQ Flexseed Crispy Chicken – barbecued to crispy outside, tender inside chicken, flourished with extra nutrients and crunchy-bites from flexseed;  Suzhou Style Crispy Eel – addictive munch that goes well with a pint of beer. Pair it with Carlsberg, with price at onloy RM50 for 3 pint, RM90 for a tower, only in this event;  Steamed Ocean Garoupa – cooked to just right, pleasingly firm texture, flavours enhanced with supreme soy sauce. And last but not least, Black Thorn Durian Glutinous Dumpling – bite size dessert, with delish premium quality durian filling encased within chewy, glutinous rice ball.  Our top favourite.
