Temu by Prep Room Damansara Uptown, a new, humble cafe in Petaling Jaya that serves up Northern Malaysian cuisine at affordable price. From single plates to sharing dishes, food here are wallet-friendly, mostly below RM20.
While dishes like Ayam Masak Merah, Ayam Masak Kicap, Gulai Ayam, Gulai Tumis Darat, Ayam Pedas Pari Fish, Sambal Tumis on Temu by Prep Room’s menu are no strangers to many of us, what makes them noteworthy is the painstaking effort in preparing sauce & gravy for each delicacy, from scratch using family’s recipes.

Gulai Ayam – chicken simmered in coconut milk-based gravy. Spicy and flavourful, goes well with rice. Do check out Gulai Tumis Darat here too. Very aromatic Northern Malay-style dish, cooked in spicy, yellowish curry sauce with herbs and spices. An option of Dried Fish/Ikan Talang, Fish Head or Prawn. Staff told us that it is best to go with their Salmon Fish Head.
Tau Kwa Kuah Kacang RM8
Deep fried bean curd, dressed in a bed of chunky, thick peanut gravy. Sided with julienne cucumber and halved eggs. Remind us about Penang Satay Tofu. Recommended.
Okra Fritters RM6, our favourite dish here. Sliced okra coated with chef’s secret batter, deep fried to golden brown. So crunchy and addictive, couldn’t stop eating this. Lol.
Be it Mee Goreng Mamak, Beef Noodles Soup or Prawn Mee, noodles options here do not disappoint. Enjoyed our penang mamak-style Mee Goreng Mamak RM18. Large portion, topped with 3 large prawns.
Tomato Rice with Ayam Masak Merah RM12 is another popular dish here, especially during lunch hour. Rice cooked in tomato paste, milk, spices, garlic onion and ginger, served with chicken braised in spicy dried chilli sambal, tomato sauce and spices.
Since Temu by Prep Room opens as early as 8.30AM, fuel up with their light breakfast such as Roti Bakar with Homemade Kaya RM2.50, Roti Bakar with Kaya n’ Butter RM3.00, Roti Bakar with Peanut Butter n’ Jam RM4.00, Roti Bakar with 1/2 Boiled Eggs RM5.00, 1/2 Boiled Eggs RM2.50 and Kuih Muih too. Available during tea time from 3PM-5PM too. Quench your thirst with kopi, tea, honey lemon, limau ais, lime with asam boi, sirap bandung or freshly blended juices.
