Kin Gyu Desa Sri Hartamas KL 金牛 : Wagyu Cuisine from Nihonbashi, Tokyo

Kin Gyu Desa Sri Hartamas KL 金牛, our latest favourite Japanese restaurant to enjoy some of the best wagyu dishes in Kuala Lumpur, apart from Shin Nihon located right across the street.

Taking prides in an extensive selections of wagyu delicacies from Nihonbashi, Tokyo Japan, Kin Gyu Hartamas definitely deserves a well-worth visit, or on our case, multiple visits! Wagyu Steamed Egg Custard, Wagyu Jerky Caesar Salad, Wagyu Tartar, Wagyu Tendon Stew to Grilled Wagyu Steak, Wagyu Cutlet Slider, Wagyu Sukiyaki Hot Pot, Wagyu Sushi, Wagyu Consomme Ramen, Minced Wagyu Claypot Rice, Wagyu Soup Rice and more, there’s a lot to explore in this restaurant.

Location wise, Kin Gyu Hartamas could be hard to locate for some. Find Guardian pharmacy, then look up for a Golden bull head, one floor up next door. Walk up the staircases to first floor. Kin Gyu entrance will be on your right.

Dining setting – another reason that we love about Kin Gyu Hartamas. The restaurant has over 20 private rooms that can accommodate from 2 to 16 diners respectively. Nicely partitioned, great for diners who prefer more privacy.

While wagyu cuisine undoubtedly taking the limelight in Kin Gyu Hartamas, the food menu also covers a noteworthy list of non-beef ala-carte, such as Paste Tofu with Walnut Dressing RM14 and Soy Milk & Cream Cheese Tofu RM15. Highly recommend the latter – homemade cheese tofu using fresh soy milk, arrow root and cream cheese. So creamy, savour slowly for the melt-in-mouth sensation.

Sesame Wagyu, Watercress and Arugula Salad RM35 decks up refreshing crunch of watercress, succulent slices of wagyu beef, tangy sweet bite of tomato, peppery & bitterness of arugula in a matching way; served with sesame dressing and soup stock.

Wagyu Carpaccio RM50, our first wagyu dish that evening. It might not have an appealing appearance, but this thinly sliced, lean cut of wagyu beef drizzled with soy sauce flavoured olive oil, topped with yuzu citrus, green seaweed and kelp garnishing is so good!

Scallop and Urchin Steamed Egg Custard RM18. Summergirl said she don’t mind having silky smooth, savoury soft chawanmushi like this everyday. Lol. You can have an option of Wagyu Steamed Egg Custard RM16 too.

Addictive deep-fried-to-golden-brown Shredded Potato French Fry RM15 to nibble on, while waiting for our Wagyu Sukiyaki Hot Pot. Even kids like this!

Kin Gyu’s Sukiyaki Hot RM250 for 2-3 persons

A combo of sliced wagyu beef, wheat gluten, garland chrysanthemum, green onion, grilled tofu, kudzu startch, noodles, Chinese cabbage, udon noodles seasoned with sweet soy sauce. Comes with raw egg and Kin Gyu’s homemade dashi shop.

Started by putting in vegetables, followed by meat. Carefully cooked to ensure best outcome possible. Yay! Our long anticipated Sukiyaki Hot Pot is ready.

Look at the tender, juicy wagyu beef slices. Very satisfying! Try to eat together with raw egg, you will love it.

You can always add on more meat, vegetables and noodles if you want to. Price is RM100 for Wagyu Slice, RM150 for Premium Loin, RM20 for vegetables and RM5 for udon.

Grilled tofu and vegetables are equally delicious, gracefully soaked up flavours of sukiyaki broth.

Accompanied our Sukiyaki Hot pot with Wagyu Beef Soup Rice RM100 and Claypot Rice RM40 for a more substantial dinner.

Claypot Rice, served with minced beef tongue cooked with soy sauce and seasoned cod roe.

Wagyu Beef Rice, Summerkid’s favourite. Begin by trying the original flavours of charcoal grilled Wagyu beef with rice, then mix the rice with seaweed, chopped green onions & condiments. Finally, pour over Japanese soup stock of bonito flakes, dried sardine and mackerel flakes and enjoy as soup rice.

Hard Shell Clam Clear Soup RM16 and Nameko Mushroom Red Miso Soup RM12 as our last dish. Learnt something new while sipping on our tummy-warming soup. We were told that Japanese doesn’t end their meal with sweet dessert, but soup instead. Interesting.

We skipped Kin Gyu Hartamas famous sushi this round as we were too full to have more. But do check out their wagyu sushi when you are here. Be it Charcoal Grilled Wagyu Sushi, Pickled Raw Wagyu Sushi, Beef Tongue Sushi, Cured Lean Cut Sushi, Roast Beef Sushi or Charcoal Grilled Wagyu Tallow Sushi, all are must-try. We will surely heading back again for these. Yum…
