Been to quite a number of afternoon tea in Kuala Lumpur but have to say that, our latest afternoon tea session at TRACE Restaurant, Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur, was exceptionally unique. Probably one of the best in KL by far in terms of creativity, presentation and quality.
Differ from the typical 3-tiers afternoon tea set or hi-tea buffet, Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur’s high tea highlights on artistic dining experience, serving nicely presented sweet & savoury in “course by course” style. Just like how its theme ARTEASTRY implies, which also stands for Art, Tea & Pastry.
First platter, the Cold Savoury – Chicken Lyonner Facaccia Bread, Smoked Salmon Bagel, Vegetables Wrap & Roll with Sweet Chilli Dip and Vegetables Vietnamese Roll.
A colourful combination of fresh, healthy ingredients with thoughtful plating, adding an illusion of magical wildflower meadow that is a feast to the eye and tummy.
Second platter, the Hot Savoury. Our favourite “course” in this afternoon tea. A mix of Western and Asian delights, putting together Beef Slider, Fish Fillet Slider, Lemon Grass Spiced Fish, Chicken Black Pepper Pie, Shepherd Pie on a black clay slate.
At the first glance, we thought that the spread will be too much for two. To our surprise, we polished clean everything – a rare case for us when comes to afternoon tea. A sign of delicious.
Love almost every item from the Hot Savoury. Be it the Chicken Black Pepper Pie with warmth, flavourful filling; Fish Slider with golden brown, crispy outside, juicy and flaky inside fillet; Beef Slider with rich, saucy meat sandwiched within two charcoal bun; or the Lemon Grass Spiced Fish that reminds us about Thai fish cake, jacketed with crunchy breaded outer layer – literally our top pick.
Next, Fruit Tartlets and Scones with Chocolate Ganache & Whipping Cream to begin the sweet part. Personally love the size of the scones – mini, just nice. Most importantly, tastes so good. Fresh from the oven, lightly crisp outside, buttery, crumbly within. Get a switch from the usual jam & clotted cream too, but that chocolaty and milky combo pairs really well with scones!
Finally, the forth part, also the center stage for this afternoon tea at Element Kuala Lumpur. Get impressed with an ARTEASTRY performance, as chef painted an edible artwork right in front of us.
Drops and strokes of chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, and mango sauce, followed by macarons, strawberries, marshmallow, jelly beans, mango chutney, chocolate soil, biscuit crumbs and more.
Place the green tinted chocolate sphere over, give it few gentle knocks to discover what’s inside. Drizzle warm chocolate over, watch it melt.
Indulge!
