Mention about food to eat in Restoran Yum Me Place at Jalan Batai, Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, the first thing that comes into your mind could be “Ohh….this place is famous for their pork noodles!”.
Shame to say, this is our first time here. We’ve not tried the restaurant’s famous Pork Noodles before and we didn’t check it out this round either. Hahaha. No doubt pork noodles is one of the most popular stalls in this kopitiam, but the mixed reviews they have stopped us from ordering a bowl. Some said it is delicious, but some reviews aren’t so positive though, highlighting that the quality is not as good as it used to be. We’ve no comment over this, till we try it out.
For this visit, our main target is the Japanese Calrose Rice Porridge, from a new stall opened by Tok Pork – the roast pork specialist.
This isn’t your ordinary Chinese congee, even though it looks like physically. The porridge is prepared using Japanese short grain rice, cooked in rich pork broth and minced pork cheek – ingredients that explain why is already flavourful with pleasing meat sweetness even without adding other condiments!
The rice porridge is further topped with ginger, extra crunchy (*yes, very crunchy and aromatic) peanuts, chopped green onions, zhu yao zhar and drizzles of sesame oil. Then comes the star of all – shredded fried TokPork that heighten up the overall flavours of the congee! Charred crispy edges with burnt saltiness and chewy meat is oh-so-tasty! RM8 for a small bowl, RM10 for large. The small portion is just the size of a Korean rice bowl, but can be quite filling if you are small eater. P/S: They also sell Roast Pork Belly Nasi Lemak, so….you can always add on ya! =D
Next, Siew Yoke & Char Siew Rice. RM11 for this plate. Char siew is just alright but the siew yoke was not bad!
Didn’t put much expectation on the char koay teow but it turned out surprisingly good! It is flavourful, spicy, wok hei loaded and not too oily. Love the egg bits coated on noodles – one of the essential requirements for Summerkid in rating a char koay teow, which Summergirl couldn’t figure out why. Stir fried it for a longer time, this char koay teow would be near to perfect.
Portion is generous too, with prawns, cockles, bean sprouts and chives accompanying the noodles. RM7.50 per plate.
There are more stalls in Restoran Yum Me Place Jalan Batai which we would like to try next round, like the Fish Ball Noodles, Wantan Mee and TokPork Pork Nasi Lemak. Would definitely order pork noodles too and see if we love it.
Notes: Due to the location, this area has a parking system with the rate of RM2 for first hour, another RM2 for the second hour on weekend. Sorry that we forget the weekday parking charges. Lol.
