Browsing through Isetan The Japan Store [2 Fabulous Years] newsletter, we immediately get attracted by their Japan Local Speciality Fair – a food fair that covers a selection of famous products by 20 food plus 7 sake brands from 15 prefecture and 1 city, all under one roof at LGF The Market! – Just this reason is enough to lure us to drop by.
And yay, we went, straight after work on Friday despite the heavy traffic. =D

Aichii Prefecture
1. Hatcho Miso, by Maruya Hatcho Miso
Hatcha miso, a brand which has been in traditional miso production for more than 100 years. They make their miso using only soybean and salt, then ferment it for more than 2 years using Japanese’s unique fermentation methods.
Hatcho Miso sauce – highly flavoured, great as dipping for fresh vegetables like kyuri and tomato; or as topping sauce for meat & steak.
Miso biscuit – crunchy and addictive snack .
2. Easy-to-cook-noodles, by Nagoya Kishimentei
These are new product range by Kishimentei, launched in September and notable for being an easy, cooked in 3 minutes soup noodles .
3. Drinkable sweet cooking sake/ mirin, by Sumiya Bunjiro Brewery
Mirin for cooking, drinkable as well! Sweet and intense in flavour, Sumiya mirin is ideal as after meal drink, like sherry or port wine. The staff told us that this mirin is great for cooking chicken teriyaki. Okay, will try it. Hehe.
Aomori Prefecture
4. Black garlic by KS Seika, Ltd.
Black garlic – the healthy superfood. KS Seika Black Garlic is produced using only white garlic from the prefecture. Texture wise, it is soft, with hints of sweetness.
5. Hirsaki Fuji and Toki Apple by Harvest Japan
OMG we saw apples from Aomori – the prefecture with the optimal weather conditions to produce juicy sweet apple! They are having “Hirosaki Fuji” and “Toki” cultivated in Iwakisan area of Hirosaki, Aomori in this fair. Japanese fruits’ fans, do give it a try!
Chiba Prefecture
6. Beni Haruka Japanese sweet potatoes by Shokuiku Net
Japanese sweet potatoes is getting increasingly popular in Malaysia, thanks to their good quality. Bake or steam, this Beni Haruka Sweet Potatoes with purple skin and yellow flesh is really tasty. RM10 per piece in this fair.
Fukushima Prefecture
7. Kitakata ramen by Igarashi Seimen
Kitakata, a place in Fukushima prefecture well-known for its Japanese ramen. We are yet to visit this place so in the meantime, savour the traditional flavour of Kitakata Ramen from this noodle packet first! Their soup is soy sauce based with dried anchovies. Other ramen flavours are available too.
Hyogo Prefecture
8. Akashi sea bream and Akashi Octopus by Yoshinoyakaisan Ltd
Due to the strong currents and tidal flows in Akashi Strait, seafood grown here are excellent in quality. Akashi sea bream and octopus, two of the proud local specialities from this port city are full of sweet flavours, you really have to try it!
If you have no time to cook it yourself, fret not, visit Azabu and The Tokyo Restaurant, 4TH The Table from 26 OCt -31 Oct 2018 for a taste of these wonderful seafood.
Ishikawa Prefecture
9. Uminokaori by Sugiyo
Finely minced cod, made into the shape of snow crab meat. Almost the same texture and taste of real crab meat. Have them on sushi and soup noodles at The Market’s from 26 Oct – 4 Nov 2018 limited time crab meat dishes.
Royale Caribbean with Crabmeat RM3/piece
Seafood Kishimen Noodle, Kishimen Noodle RM25/bowl
Silky smooth noodles in soup, topped with seafood/chicken and vegetables. Great for diners looking for light meals for lunch or dinner.
Miyagi Prefecture

12. Japanese Green Tea by Maiko-Tee Japan
Our favourite booth in Japan Local Speciality Fair at Isetan The Japan Store Lot 10. The tea master was very friendly, introducing us to their green tea brand with great history, and prepared us ‘Takumi’ tea – a premium tea by MaikoTea’s tea expert Yamashita Toshikaz san.
He also told us that, generally, lower water temperature will bring out the sweetness of the tea, while higher temperature will release the bitterness of tea. Hence, use a lower temperature for bitter green tea. An educational stop over, as we learnt some new tea knowledge from the tea master. Thank you~
13. Japanese Green Tea by Uji No Tsuyu Seicha
More Japanese tea selections and beverage to choose from, like iced matcha, houjicha latte, matcha latte RM14.
Nagano Prefecture
14. Ringo Otome (Rice Cracker with Real Apple Slices) by Matsuzawa
This biscuit is so nice! It is a thin, crispy biscuit made of ground apples, topped with apple slices at the centre.
15. Miso paste by Marumo Aoki Miso
Marumo Aoki Miso is produced in the heart of Shinshu. They use only Hokkaido soybean and Okinawa salt in making their miso, ensuring the best quality possible.
16. Shichimi/ seven flavour chilli pepper by Yawataya Isogoro Ltd.
Kongen Yawataya Isogoro shichimi togarashi – a type of 7-spice blends that helps to enhance the flavours of your dishes, no matter it is udon, rice, crackers, salad or ramen.

17. Wasabi Camembert Cheese by Tamaruya Honten
Wasabi and cammerbert cheese are not something unfamiliar, but how often you see both in one. To our surprise, this spread is superb. Rich and nutty cheese infused with wasabi in a mild way, just nice. Must-buy!
Tochigi Prefecture
18. Chicken soy sauce flavour ramen by Tokyo Noodle
Soy sauce, tonkotsu, miso-flavoured Tokyo Noodles
Wakayama Prefecture
19. Yuzu concentration & drinks by Wide Area Chamber of Commerce Higashimuro Council
A booth with all the citrusy yuzu products like Yuzu pouch rink, Yuzu Honey Jelly, Yuzu Marmalade and Yuzu Tomato Seasoning.
10-times concentrate citrus drink. Serving suggestion – with sparkling water and crushed ice!
20. Umeboshi by Wataguci Farm
Umeboshi or pickled plum, another speciality in Wakayama.
Some booths offered sampling too! Trying out their specialities food really make us feel like going back to Japan already.
Next up, sake from reputable brewery in Fukushima, Gifu, Hyogo, Yamagato, Aichi , Ishikawa and Tottori Prefecture! Sampled few sake and having hard time deciding which one to buy later, because we like all of them. Haha.

Done with shopping and joining the lucky draw, time to eat more. We moved on to The Table at 4th floor to discover more anniversary food-related surprise!
The Table at Isetan The Japan Store, Lot 10 has always been our favourite dining place for Japanese food in KL. Love their tonkatsu, sushi, yakiniku, mizutaki and to-die-for 6th Avenue Cheescake.
For Isetan The Japan Store Lot 10 2nd Anniversary, all six restaurants in 4th The Table, namely Anzu, Toraji, Toriden, Azabu, The Tokyo Restaurant and Touan has teamed up with Japan Local Speciality, churning out delicious dishes using Japanese ingredients air-flown from Japan. Price is relatively reasonable, starting from RM8. Definitely worth a try!
Let’s begin.
Pork Fillet with Plum RM12/piece. By Tonkatsu Anzu
Pork fillet filled with a layer of plum and shiso leaf, breaded and deep-fried to golden brown. Love the subtle sweetness and zesty touch that cuts through in between crispy, juicy and tender bites. Nice!
Avocado Wasabi Camembert Cheese RM12. By Yakiniku Toraji
Creaminess of avocado, cheesiness of camembert cheese along with a faint hint of wasabi and pepper salt finish – this dish is so good! We never thought combination like this can match so well.
Sweet Potato French Fries RM18. By Mizutaki Toriden
Japanese sweet potato, our favourite! We normally just steam the sweet potatoes and eat it plain at home, hence this version by Toriden, clearly, tastes a lot better! These sweet potatoes are first cleaned, cut into thick stripes, steam and deep fried, finally sprinkled with Yuzu salt. Love the thin crispiness at the outside, chestnut-sweetness inside.
Madako of Polpo Affogato from Akashi RM15. By The Tokyo Restaurant RM15
Madako, or octopus cooked in Italian-style. Broiled and dressed in tomato sauce.
Madai of chazuke from Akashi RM20
Sea bream Chazuke – a bed of rice, topped with madai, or sea bream, pour with the soup before served. Despite being light in taste, the sea bream itself is a clear winner, adding not only delicate texture but also lovely sweetness that helps flavour up this comfort food.
Tai No Shio-yaki RM58. By Sushi Azabu
Tako Skura ni RM30. By Sushi Azabu
Dishes by Sushi Azabu are always well-prepared and satisfying, same goes to Tai No Shio-Yaki and Tako Sakura ni served in this anniversary collaboration. Our personal favourite between the two? Tai No Shio-yaki!
Yuzu Cocktail RM8/non-alcohol, RM10/with alcohol. By Yakitori Touan
Accompany our meal with Yuzu cocktail made using concentrated yuzu which you can also find in Japan Local Speciality Fair at The Market. Very refreshing, thirst-quenching.
