Wood & Wheat Pizza Restaurant at Tropicana Avenue is set to bring in a creativity-loaded pizza menu to folks in KL & PJ, highlighting flavours that you might not have tasted before, says, Kam Heong Pizza, Pasembur Pizza and Rendang Chicken Pizza – enough to lure you for a visit.
Wood & Wheat Tropicana Avenue, a new place for pizza in Klang Valley, with concept beyond ordinary thanks to the innovative minds behind Good Blue Men Cafe in Happy Mansion Section 17 PJ – the home for Kam Heong Sandwich.
Seeing Kam Heong Pizza on Wood & Wheat menu kinda make sense, as this is what the team prides at. While for others, equally interesting with Asian flavours mix & match. This is also the important part that distinguishes Wood & Wheat from the rest, be it an Italian restaurant in up-scale shopping mall, or chain pizza restaurant one street away from your home.
Keeping the authenticity of a food is undoubtedly a good practice, but giving the classic a twist gives fun end results too. Wood & Wheat proves to be a worthwhile example, being adventurous in trying something new – combining Asian flavours into an Italian favourite food.
There’s an extensive Asian flavours that can go into a fusion pizza toppings but Wood & Wheat narrowed down the selections into a very focused-menu, finalizing a total of 7 for soft launch, maybe just a few more in near futue.
Kam Heong Chicken Royale Pizza (Top), Rendang-licious Pizza (Bottom)
And they are not created out from no where, but with a well-represent meaning. For instance, Kam Heong Chicken Royale Pizza, Rendang-licious Pizza, Pasembur Pizza, Masala Pizza – they call it as Chinese Malay Indian Satu Malaysia series. Not bad! We like this idea!
Pull it up high~ The cheesier the merrier!
Other flavours are Thairiffic Tom Yum Seafood Pizza (Left), the all time favourite from Thai; Fiery Masala Pizza (Right) was quite unique, for those who loves herbs and spices..
Triple Cheese Pizza (Left) and Pasembur Pizza (Right)
..Not to forget, Triple Cheese with Parmagiano – reggiano, mild cheddar and Mozzarella generously top over. Each pizza has their own sauce, all made in-house.
Honestly, we’ve never thought that Pasembur can be combined with a pizza. Quite skeptical at first but to our surprise, it was so tasty. Blended well with the doughy base, with lots of textures from kyuri, shredded yam bean, carrot, fried tofu, nachos and almond nibs.
We are kinda greedy, wanted to try most of the flavours and decide to go for half-half! Price for single flavour pizza starts from RM25, while half-half is RM42.
Their wheat dough is handmade, painstakingly go through least 6-12 hours of resting process to ensure the best texture possible, with right lightness and volumeness.
Each pizza is freshly made upon order. Hand-stretch, 12 inch, add with toppings and send to bake in a self-built brick-oven.
As the name implies, Wood & Wheat using dried wood to bake their pizza, imparting a smoky, nice woody hints to the pizza base, along with crusty, slightly charred edges.
Look at that beautiful rustic outer layer, this is how we like our pizza to be like.
Crispy at the sides, followed by fluffy softness towards the center, then lots of Asian flavours from the toppings.
We were told that the soon-to-launch two flavours are equally special, from our favourite Asia countries!!!! Feel free to start guessing but we wont tell the answer, haha. Stay close to Wood & Wheat Instagram and Facebook page.
But if you are here for Italian pizza, you might be disappointed. The closet you can get will be a Margherita Pizza, and no more.
Lastly, a Sweetie Pie yet not a pie. It is actually a dessert pizza, layered with pandan lotus paste, korean honey citron, green apple, red apple and raisin. So much win again on the Asisn-Western concoction. Not too sweet, just nice. Officially second favourite for summergirl.
Get some extra snacks to go with your pizza, like Garlicky Fries RM8.0- hand cut fries with in-house garlic seasoning; Ryan’s Nachos RM9.0 – chips with creamy herb sauce; Zesty Chicken Finger RM12.0 chicken fingers with garlic lemon sauce.
And then came this freshly-cut cucumber stick that made us wondering is it for fibres vitamins sort of. Not wrong but actually, since pizza here is Asian-based, it can be quite highly-flavoured. Having cucumber in between can help to balance up the flavours, like a refresher. It really works. Summerkid rarely touch cucumber but he munched down a lot this round, and keep saying : ” So refreshing, luckily they have this on the menu. Clever lo…”. Lol
How to order: Wood & Wheat is on semi-self service. Order and pay at the counter, then get your “number cube”. Staffs will send the food to your table once ready. After eating, clear your table to keep it clean for the next customer. A small gesture that the restaurant will appreciate lots, especially when the staffs are busy taking orders and making you their best pizzas in the kitchen.
Overall review: A very nice restaurant for unique flavour pizza. We personally enjoy Kam Heong Pizza, Rendang Pizza and Pasembur Pizza. Love the pizza crust a lot. Also, since their dough and sauces are made fresh daily, only limited quantity of pizzas can be served. Do come early before they sold out.
