Omulab Seksyen 17 Petaling Jaya, get your fluffy Japanese Omurice craving fixed here!
Japanese-style omurice used to be the a hidden signature in Slurp Cafe, and now the top seller that has taken center stage in Omulab Seksyen 17 Petaling Jaya – the new location for this humble restaurant.
Imagine cutting through paper thin, crepe-like egg sheet and unfolds runny, barely set egg curds blanketed within, watching it flows out slowly – Oo-so-satisfying moments. And this is how Omulab by Slurp! Cafe begin gaining attention, popular among adults and children alike.
Almost every dish in Omulab menu is related to egg – From fluffy omelette on fried rice to egg on soba, egg on salad, egg on hamburg, and even egg in coffee. We had a try on Mentaiko Guru (RM21.90). A platter of Ebiko Fried Rice, Mentaiko Sauce and Japanese Omu.
While we enjoyed the luscious, moist and soft omelette, fried rice is rather light in taste. But we guess maybe this is to make a balance with Mentaiko sauce which is on rich and flavourful side. Other Omurice options you can have include Mix Herb Fried Rice with Japanese Curry Sauce, Kimchi Fried Rice with Tomato Sauce, Beef Bacon Freid Rice with Demiglace Sauce, Spanish Squid Ink Fried Rice with White Sauce and Japanese Wafu Fried Rice with Blue Cheese Sauce. Price from RM18.90.
Summergirl’s Omu Yaki Soba (RM17.90) from “Omu No Rice Menu” was not too bad. Just, we recommend to stick to the classic omurice instead, unless you are really in the mood to check out more interesting omu delicacies like Yaki Udon with Fluffy Omelette (RM20.90), Grilled Salmon with Mentaiko Mayo & Fluffy Omelette (RM30.90), Japanese Hamburg Steak with Fluffy Omelette (RM24.90), Japanese Teriyaki Chicken with Fluffy Omelette (RM22.90); Omu Salad (RM14.90) and Omu Maki (RM15.90).
Tori Karaage RM8
Add protein and sides like Pan Fried Dory, Grilled Chicken Chop, Tori Karaage, Tempura Ebi, Hamburg Steak, Beef Slice, Hamburg Steak with Cheese, Korokke, Sautted Vegetables for a more filling meal.
Latte RM10
Waiting time could be longer especially during peak lunch hour as each beautiful Japanese omelette is prepared upon order. So be patient, Omulab’s omu is worth the wait. Keep yourself occupied with sips of coffee or tea while waiting.
Matcha Latte MR11
Surprisingly, Omulab has quite a long beverage list. Matcha Sakura Rose Cold Brew, Matcha Latte, Matcha Choco Latte, Matcha Cafe Latte, Sakura Rose Latte, Salted Genmaicha Latte, Matcha Float, Houjicha Float, Cappuccino, Latte, Caramel Macchiato, Mocha, 100% Cold Pressed Juice, Tea, Creamy Double Chocolate and Soymilk in Baby Bottle, just to name a few.
Total bill came to RM75 including service charge. Not exactly pocket-friendly for normal lunch but worth a try, as not all restaurants offer such egg-cellent dish.
On a side note, getting a parking is difficult here. You probably know this if you ever been to any of the cafes along this shop row – Strangers47, The Humble Pie, Cafe 9, JEQ in The House, or Aroi Mak Mak. Look out for Omulab private parking space nearby, but was already fully occupied when we reached.
