“Life is a journey, full of pictures, places, stories and good tasting recipes” – Greyhound Cafe lives up to its tagline well, right from the moment we step into the restaurant.
Originated from Bangkok, Thailand, Greyhound Cafe is no stranger to food enthusiasts. The brand Greyhound started out as a fashion retail, and venturing into food business about two decades ago, opening Greyhound Cafe. The idea of putting together fashion and food turned out to be a success. By now, Greyhound is an establishment with over 10 overseas outlets in Hong Kong, Macau, China and Malaysia.
There are currently two Greyhound Cafe in Malaysia, one at ANSA Bukit Bintang, another in Mid Valley Megamall. Visited the outlet in ANSA Bukit Bintang last week, and instantly fell in love with its modernly designed interior in monochromatic colour theme! Photography worthy at almost every corner!
Polished concrete floorings, black walls adorned with framed pictures and beautiful mural art; yellow hue light; complete with wooden & steel furnishing in similar colour shade for rustic finish.
And not to forget, the iconic bar counter with rows of subway tiles in black and white!
Grilled Yellow Pumpkin with Sesame Tsoyu Dressing on Mix Lettuce & Pomegranate Seed
Got dragged away by the interior a little before reaching for our seat. LOL. In line with Greyhound’s fashionable concept, Greyhound Cafe menu covers delectable delicacies that goes beyond just traditional Thai delicacies. Apart from familiar Thai favourites such as Tom Yum Koong, Noodle with Thai Duck Stew, Phad Thai and Fried Chicken Wings, diners can also enjoy dishes with Greyhound’s very own creative twist, such as this Grilled Yellow Pumpkin – Sweet flavours of pumpkin, pairing well with sesame tsoyu dressing that reminds us about Japanese flavours, plus juicy bites from pomegranate seed. First time having pumpkin mix & match in this way, and it’s so nice!
Grilled Salmon Steak & Green Anchovy Sauce Served with Thai Basil Mashed Potato & Pomelo
Next up, grilled salmon steak. This fish dish may be common, but when you served together with Greyhound’s in-house green anchovy sauce, Thai basil mashed potato & pomelo, it shines differently with unique concoction. The green colour sauce is especially great. Pack a punch of flavours, mild spiciness.
Greyhound’s Signature Coconut Crepe Cake Served with Berries & Red Ruby
Do not leave Greyhound Cafe without indulging into their famous Young Coconut Crepe Cake, a dessert we have been wanting to try. Paper thin crepe sheet and whipped cream, layering one after another along with shredded coconut – It is rich, creamy but not cloying, thanks to the refreshing coconut that clocks in just right in between to balance up the overall flavours. We had one slice each but we managed to finish the whole piece despite the hearty serving, and right after savoury main course! ‘coz it was that good. Highly recommended.
Overall, a satisfying dinner. Really like the great ambience. Planning to sample more dishes in future visits. Definitely a great place for gatherings, celebrations or merely a casual dining. If you are still planning on which restaurant to go to for your Christmas & New Year celebrations, Greyhound Cafe could be an ideal option. Do check it out!
