Every last Friday of the month starting from September to November, Lafite, Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur will put together fine French cuisine, dainty canapes, exquisite wines and more for a memorable evening of pure indulgence – the Wine and Dine.
There is only one session of ‘Wine and Dine’ a month. In other words, you only have three chances to experience this exclusive dinner – 29th September, 27th October and 24th November 2017. The dinner features a 3-course menu, specially crafted by talented Executive Chef Olivier Pistre using finest ingredients to entice your discerning taste buds.
We visited the first session on 29th September, and really glad that everything is notably good, from the ambience, hospitality to food served.
Pre-Dinner Wine Tasting
The Wine and Dine started off with a pre-dinner wine tasting, featuring a lovely selection of red and white French wines at the bar counter. If you found your favourite wine, you may order and enjoy it along with your meal later.
Capanes
Followed by a round of canapes – Lemon Poached Green Asparagus with Quail Egs, House Smoked Salmon Tartare with Avruga Caviar and Watermelons with Feta Cheese and Balsamic Vinegar.
Herloom Tomato Variation & Burata “De Pouilles’
We started with Herloom Tomato Variation & Burata “De Pouilles’, starters that carries elements of Caprese salad, but heighten up with more flavours, textures, colours and of course, more laborious process and efforts that worth the loud applause.
A bed of burata cheese, loaded with creaminess but not cloying from the beginning till the end, thanks to the tomatoes prepared in a variety of ways – whole tomato with herb jus injection, and tomato confit, marinated tomatoes. Eat together and get a well-balanced taste from each. Take a sip of salted tomato juice in between, it helps to clean the palate, and enhance the taste with hints of pleasing saltiness and sourness.
French Duck Breast & Foie Gras
Next up, French Duck Breast and Foie Gras. Pan seared duck breast, but never too dry. Enjoyed the meat chewiness locked with juiciness within. Foie Gras, the luscious treat certainly scored well with its creamy, melt-in-the mouth texture, futher shielded with paper thin, crispy outer layer seared to aromatic, beautiful burnt-brown. Served with a side of green pea ‘a la Francaise’.
French Rum Baba
Lastly, French Rum Baba. Summergirl loved this Pistaccio sponge akin to choux pastry, so fluff and pillow-y! The best moment was when the lovely, sweet flavours of rum that oozed out slowly as we bite through the dessert, followed by light creaminess of fresh cream topping. A touch of raspberry gel comes in just right for refreshing, fruity tang finish.
Make your evening at Lafite more perfect with a bottle of wine from a selection of Pierre Andre Macon-Village “Vaucharmes” or “Chateau Malbec Bordeaux” included in your meal for every two diners. For September, French wines takes the limelight while for October and November, Italian wines and Australian wines will be be served respectively.
