Kimi-ya at Old Klang Road, Avantas Residences Kuala Lumpur is a mid-high end Japanese restaurant offers lovely Japanese food at affordable price, with no compromise on the quality. We have been eye-ing on this restaurant since we had our cafe hopping at Little People Cafe, which is located within the same premise with Kimi-ya.
Finally paid this place a visit for lunch last Saturday. Get welcomed with the charm of Japanese traditional design, along with modern simplicity that creates harmonious, tranquil look in whole. Moderately designed with multi-layers timber, bamboo, Japanese floral picture, sake barrel, plus furnishing in darker shade for cutting-edge finish.
Sashimi
Kimi-Ya menu has huge varieties, covering dishes from appetizers, salad to sushi, sashimi, agemono, teishoku, udon, soba, Japanese curry, nimono, yakimono, dessert, among others.
Our favourite goes to their sashimi and sushi. Hamachi, kanpachi, honmaguro, uni, botan ebi, hobo, hotate, salmon, maguro, and shiro sashimi – Kimiya has all of them. Platter it up by getting Matsu Sashimi Moriawase (RM90) or Ume Sashimi Moriawase (RM150) to enjoy different varieties of sashimi in one go.
Hamachi Carpaccio RM46
Highly recommend Hamachi Carpaccio, a bite-size sashimi delicacy that has thinly sliced hamachi encasing shredded daikon, giving a rich and buttery taste along with refreshing sweetness of shredded daikon, further flavoured up with carpaccio dressing.
Kimi-ya Special Roll RM36
If you prefer something more than just basic Hoso Maki, check out Kimi-ya Special Roll. It adds a more luscious flavours to a avocado, omelette and cucmber filled maki roll, topping it with sliced raw tuna, then gives it a light torch and finish with black caviar.
Soft Shell Crab Maki Roll RM28
Other than this, you may also tuck into crowd favourites like Soft Shell Crab Maki Roll, Aburi Salmon Cheese Roll, Dragon Roll, Unagi Avocado Roll, California Roll and Ebi Salad Roll. We go for Soft Shell Crab Maki Roll as usual, as we really how the juicy, crispiness of soft shell crab breaks apart within chewiness of Japanese sushi rice.
Kaisen Pirikara Miso Nabe RM36
We were told that Pirikara ピリ辛 means spicy in Japanese, so expect a piquant kick in this tummy-warming Kaisen Pirikara Miso Nabe. Instead of normal soybean paste, spicy soy bean paste is used as the soup base. Good amount of squid, salmon, tofu, mushroom, carrot, cabbage, onions, shrimp, scallop loaded in it, enough to make the soup real flavourful, thanks to the natural sweetness of seafood and vegetable released into broth as we cook them on. But try not to cook it for too long, as the essence of soybean paste and seafood may make it too salty.
(*Monthly special) Iwagaki Japanese Oyster RM36
Look out for their monthly special when you dine in Kimi-ya. Their finely selected seafood or specially curated dishes is available only on that particular month. In July, they’ve got a big hit with fresh, air-flown uni and in August, plump, juicy Iwagaki Japanese Oyster that is as big as our palm takes the center stage. For September special, stay tune to their Facebook.
Surume Ika Teriyaki to Salmon Sashimi Gozen RM66
The hard time arrives as we want to choose our main course, because Kimi-ya has a long list of Teishoku and all of the look so good! SabaShioyaki Gozen, Chicken Teriyaki Gozen, Sanma Shioyaki Gozen, Zaru Soba to Una Don Gozen, Salmon Mentaimayo Yaki Gozen, Sushi to Tempura Gozen, Nabeyaki Udon to Sushi Gozen, Asari Udon to Sushi Gozen, Sashimi Moriawase to Tempura Gozen, Sashimi Moriawase Gozen, Unagi Kabayaki to Salmon Sashimi Gozen, Surume Ika Teriyaki to Salmon Sashimi Gozen, Rib Eye Sukiyaki Gozen – a total of 18 of them, not yet counted the single plate option of rice bowl, ramen and udon,!
Settle down with Surume Ika Teriyaki to Salmon Sashimi Gozen – grilled whole Japanese squid with Teriyaki sauce, salmon sashimi, Japanese pickles, rice, miso soup, chawanmushi and fruits.
Curry Udon RM22
Kimi-ya serves pretty nice Japanese curry so if you are in the mood for this thick in consistency, savoury, mildly spicy gravy graciously dressed over your rice or thickly coated on your noodles, do not hesistate to have an order of their curry udon(RM22), tempura curry rice (RM30), tori karaage curry rice (RM28) or beef curry rice (RM30).
Zaru Soba RM18
In KL, Soba might not be as popular comparing to udon but Kimi-ya is certainly the place you should go for when comes to soba that is worthwhile on the aroma and texture.
Zaru Soba is a fun way to enjoy their homemade soba in a fun way. Try their buckwheat noodles in original taste, then dip into homemade dipping sauce prepared from soy sauce and dashi soup. Second, add in chopped green onion and wasabi, stir and dip with noodles. Thirdly, quail egg makes an appearance! Break the egg into the sauce, stir and enjoy with noodles.
We love the second method of eating this soba the most! Spicy kick on-point! Kimi-ya uses grated wasabi paste, not powder form wasabi hence you get a more distinct real wasabi flavour.
Mizu Shingen Mochi RM10
Mizu Shingen Mochi, a wobbly sweet treat that has taken the internet world by storm about a year back, and is more known as raidrop cake. The dessert itself is quite pale in taste, with texture like agar-agar. Have it with syrup and soy bean powder serves along, it will taste much better instantly.
Abekawa Mochi RM10
Last, Summergirl’s favourite – Abekawa Mochi. A type of homemade chewy rice cake, served with soybean powder and red bean paste.
Gives Kimi-ya Japanese Restaurant a try whenever you are in Old Klang Road or OUG area. Quite a decent restaurant no matter is for casual dinner, friends gathering, family dinnner. They also have Japanese Set Lunch that is value in price.
