Wong Mei Kee Pudu 王美记 (also known as Wong Kee or Wong Meng Kee) serves one of the best roast pork aka siew yoke (燒肉) in KL. People flock to this place during lunch hour just to savour beautiful cuts of siew yuk, despite the bad traffic in Pudu. By now, the already famous Wong Meng Kee, is made even popular, thanks to powerful social media.
Wong Meng Kee opens only at 12.30PM sharp, food usually sold off by 3PM. Full house is expected around 12PM, queue for take away starts to build up. And you have to wait. They literally don’t bother on pre-order. If you are in the take away line, be patient, because they will serve sit down customers first once the clock strikes 12.30 noon.
The price for their roast pork has double from the first time we visit. Parking is a hassle, we have to wait for our siew yuk, it is expensive and yet we still go for it. LOL. Because Summerkid likes their siew yoke so much.
Perfectly roasted pork with balanced proportion of lean and fat meat, partially pinkish meat plus crackling crispy pork skin. No trace of dry nor tough texture, only juicy tender bite, like tucking into meat cut with good marbling.
The last time we had this was earlier this month. Our takeaway roast pork + roasted chicken rice is whopping expensive at RM24.50, almost comparable to our trio roast rice 三拼燒腊飯 (a combo of char siew, siu yuk and roasted duck) at Village Roast Duck Pavilion KL. Definitely hold us back from returning to Wong Meng Kee so often already. But still, it is a highly recommended place if you are looking for excellent roast pork in Kuala Lumpur.
