VCR Cafe Pudu is close enough for us to have “supper coffee” on weekdays and the newly opened VCR Cafe Bangsar is near enough for us to enjoy leisure brunch on weekend. Hahahaha, certainly something we are grateful with for having a promising cafe not so far from our staying place.
After few years leading the coffee scene in Kuala Lumpur, VCR, a reputable cafe with multiple coffee awards is finally branching out, having first outlet in Bangsar Kuala Lumpur. It is located along Bangsar busiest street Jalan Telawi 3, in between Alexis and Hanbing.
Glad that the area was still on light traffic when we arrived around 10.30AM last Sunday. Parking was still a hassle (*why there’s forever no parking in Telawi) but we managed to get one after going few rounds in the neighbourhood.
VCR Bangsar inherits the ambience of VCR Pudu KL. Wooden and steel furnishing with shiny table top, concrete floorings, yellow hue lights, counter and kitchen on darker colours contrasting by a little white shade. What makes it different from VCR Pudu is probably the courtyard section with beautiful natural light during daytime. Good photography spot if outdoor is way too hot for you.
Expect coffee and food here to be equally promising. VCR Cafe Bangsar menu covers a good list of sweet and savoury dishes from the ever popular French Toast to crowd-favourite Big Breakfast (RM36), Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM26), Turkish Style Eggs (RM25), VCR Hot Cakes (RM25), Scandinavian Breakfast (RM30) and Potato Waffle (MR25), Granola (RM20), Avocado Toast (RM24), Polenta Shrooms (RM25), just to name a few. Pork-free, food price within RM30 except for VCR Big Breakfast.
Not too sure since when Summerkid fall in love with brioche. He has been asking for brioche French Toast on every cafe we went to recently, as long as their menu has it.
So here it is, VCR French Toast, a dessert breakfast choice that never fail to disappoint. Lightly crisp at the outside, super fluffy within brioche French toast, topped with generous huge scoop of espresso no churn ice cream, biscuit crumbles, raspberry compote and mocha sauce. Sooooooooooooooo good. Have it for breakfast, teatime or merely as dessert, we don’t mind.
Due to the not-so-great weather recently that leads to uncomfortable throat, we try to stay away from deep fried food, despite we were yearning for VCR Pennsykvania’s Soul – A delicious platter of potato waffle with fried chicken, maple syrup and Thai basil. It look so tempting when we scroll through some photos of this dish on Instagram. But yea, next trip perhaps.
Settled down with housemade flaxseed sourdough topped with scrambled egg and a side of beef bacon at additional RM5. Yay, creamy soft scrambled eggs is so much win! Highly recommended.
For those who love big breakfast like Summergirl but always ended up can’t finishing it as the portion lives up to its name so well for being real big, it is better to go for your own mix & match. Add your own favourite one by one and size it up to a more manageable portion on the add-ons “Extra” menu of VCR, this is something we always do. We would be happier if there’s a choice of “mixed greens”. LOL.
The basic Eggs on Toast is just RM10, and you can add on avocado (RM8), Turkey Ham (RM5), Beef Bacon (RM5), Mushroom Friccasse (RM5), Sourdough Toast (RM5), Lamb Bolognese (RM5), Sausages (RM10) at reasonable price.
Beverage in VCR no doubt, still has coffee taking the crown. As nice as VCR Pudu coffee with classic white and black. Other drinks options include tea like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Morgentau Sencha, Pure Chamomile, Herbs & Ginger, Raspberry Royale; Tapping Tapir Sodas; fresh orange, lemonade, chocolate and soy milk to please diners looking for non-caffeine selections.
By the time we left around noon, crowds began building up but not reaching full house. One reason maybe is because it is still new, or it was a cold after rain Sunday so many were still in bed? Whatever reason it is, we do wish VCR Bangsar can stay this way for longer time. Not too quiet, yet not too “happening”. Service crew is friendly and attentive, as usual. Don’t forget to grab a slice of King Durian Cake as dessert if you still have room after the main course. =D
