When comes to having sushi on conveyor belt and wallet-friendly Japanese rice bowl in a shopping mall, Sushi Zanmai is always our top pick. While we enjoy our quick, fuss-free meal in Sushi Zanmai, there are also times when we feel like dining in a Japanese fusion restaurant with cozy, relaxing ambience. Says, Japanese pasta, Japanese Pizza or Doria for lunch or dinner. At that time, Pasta Zanmai, a restaurant under the same group will be our choice.
Pasta Zanmai holds quite a big menu, covering from classic favourite to modern take on Japanese delights such as salad, pizza, pasta and doria, or rice gratin. Monthly special is available too, enticing diners’ tastebud with delicacies that can be tried out only on that month.
Kani Avocado Salad RM18
Paid a visit to Pasta Zanmai latest outlet in Sunway Velocity, Cheras last week and sampled some of their signature food. Started with Kani Avocado Salad, Summergirl’s all time favourite. Bowlful of colours and textures, flavoured up with toasted sesame mayo sauce.
Ika Gesa Karaage RM15
Addictive deep fried squid, crispy outside, chewy inside. Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab, Tori Karaage are lovely too. Wash down with ice fruit tea for refreshing finish.
Ice Fruit Tea RM19/Jug, RM9/glass
Kani Mentaiko Tortila Roll RM15
Spotted this tortilla roll and had one for sharing while waiting for our main courses to arrive. Appeared like sushi roll, with tortilla to replace seaweed sheet and sushi rice. Stuffed with crab meat and vege, dressed in omelette tortilla roll and a layer of torched cheese and mentaiko.
Seafood Tomato Cream Sauce Pasta RM17
As the name suggests, Pasta Zanmai is prides for their pasta. A wide varieties of pasta flavours, all in affordable price. Salmon Wafu Pasta (RM17), Ebi Tempura Goma Sauce Pasta (RM15), Unagi Kabayaki Pasta (RM17), Seafood Omu Yaki Pasta (RM18), Ebi Wafu Pasta (RM15), Sirloin Steak Spicy Pasta (RM17), and Hotate Spicy Pasta (RM19), just to name a few.
Chicken Teriyaki Omu Garlic Rice RM16
For rice lovers, do check out Pasta Zanmai Omu Garlic Rice, be it a toppong of Unagi Kabayaki or Grilled Chicken. The best thing lies in the middle – delicately soft omelette that tastes so great with aromatic garlic rice.
Hotate Mentaiko Pizza RM26
Yay! Here comes our favourite – PIZZA! We really like their pizza – thin crust, generously loaded with ingredients so needless to say, very flavourful. They are not skimp on the cheese too. Pull it for almost half a meter and the melted cheese doesn’t break. Haha. So tasty yet so much fun.
Spiced Chicken to Sanshu no Cheese Pasta RM15
Asides from ala-carte items, we also sampled few dishes from April Special. Spiced Chicken to Sanshu no Cheese Pasta to start. A cream base pasta but not extremely rich version, so it is quite easy to finish the whole plate for one pax without feeling cloying. “Protein-up” with Cajun chicken beautifully topped over the noodles.
Takenoko to Kinoko no Cheese Doria RM18
Takenoko to Kinoko no Cheese Doria, a dish that reminds us about baked rice, in fact, it is quite close to. Japanese rice, layered with Japanese bamboo shoot, mushroom, cream sauce and finally cheese. Put into baked to get an end result of melted cheese with partially heated till golden brown crisp surface. Creamy with juicy sweetness from vegetables, light in seasoning so well suit diners who enjoy healthier flavour.
Yam Imo Cream Soup RM7
Mushroom soup, miso soup, tomato soup, pumpkin soup are too main stream. Try Yam Imo Cream Soup at Pasta Zanmai this April. Pretty interesting soup, thick in consistency with real yam blended in it, texture added with yam chips.
Kurumi Cake to Lavender Ice Cream RM12
Full to the brim by the time we finished our last dish but still, couldn’t help but moved on with dessert. “A meal ended without dessert is incomplete”. Hahaha, Summergirl’s quote.
Macha Crepe RM15
We shared a plate of Kurumi Cake to Lavender Ice Cream and Mach Crepe. Like the former’s ice cream with tinge of lavender, not too sweet, just nice. For the latter, equally good buy putting together Hokkaido red bean rolled with thin crepe, crowned with green tea ice cream.
