Paperfish TTDI Kuala Lumpur isn’t a place for origami class or painting workshop, though the name sounds like; but a cafe that makes “healthy but delicious food” fits in well, if you wish to title it so.
Located along Jalan Sultan Sulaiman, same row with Goodness Green Cafe by La Juiceria, Paperfish strives to introduce a more healthy diet to city people in this city, in an affordable way. Run by a group of young, energetic entrepreneurs, we see the potential of this new shop in coming months, believe will be as colourful as our meal here.
Paperfish TTDI menu focuses on poké bowl-inspired dish originated from Hawaii. And no, it is not related to Pokemon. The term “poke” means “sliced or cut”. It is traditionally appears as cubed fish seasoned in various way, then eaten on its own or over rice. It may be “reconstructed” over the time, but still stay true to its core idea. In fact, it has swiftly becoming highly favored, flavourful yet wholesome rice bowl.
Umami Shoyu Salmon Poké RM16.90
Here in Papefish, your poké bowl starts with a base of brown rice, white rice as carbs, or baby green for more salad style. Quioa is available too (+RM1.90). Then, choose your protein, it can either be salmon, tuna or shrimp. Now as seafood gets in, Paperfish lives up to its name LOL. Each bowl will then finish with ebiko, sesame seed, Furikae and seaweed flakes. If you like to have more, feel free to add-on chia seeds, flaxseeds, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, almond, cashew, chuka wakame, avocado, crispy salmon skin, pomegranate seeds or sous vide egg from Superfood list. Price from RM1.50 – RM2.50. Complete the meal with a drink – hot tea, fresh coconut, Tapping Tapir soda drink, or HoneyB fizzy honey drink.
We sampled 3 flavours recommended by staff – Umami Shoyu Salmon, Heat Wave and Cili Tuna. If you can’t decide which one to have from the menu, Umami Shoyu Salmon is a nice one to begin with. A more classic version, filling up cherry tomatoes, edamame, Japanese cucumber, onions and the star of all – salmon marinated with shoyu sauce over your choice of base.
Heat Wave Poké RM17.90
Heat Wave Poke bowl is our favourite among the three, because the seasoning for the salmon is sriracha sauce! Never fail to like anything that goes with this hot sauce. Hehe. But of course, freshness of ingredients count too. We were told that the kitchen prepare new batch of tuna/salmon/shrimp every few hours to ensure freshness.
Cili Tuna Poké RM17.90
Besides, we adore how Paperfish incorporated flavours that Malaysians proud at in their Poke bowl, says the Cili Tuna. Cubed tuna seasoned with cili padi, giving real spicy kick that opens up the appetite. Rice is the base you should go for. We regretted having it in vegetables base.
Other Poke bowl options you can have are Citrus-San Tuna Poke Bowl (*Kaffe Lime Marinated Tuna), Tropical Poke Bowl (Pineapple Sauce Marinated Tuna), Sea-salt Shrimp Poke Bowl, Sea-salt Shrimp Poke Bowl, as well as meat-free Mango Salsa Poke Bowl and Avocado Poke Bowl.
“Eat clean” doesn’t mean going tasteless, it can be delicious too like this Poke Bowl. We’ve began growing fond on this fuss-free, unique bowl that reminds us about Japanese chirashi Bowl. LOL. Check out Paperfish when you’re nearby. Just “dapao” if couldn’t get a parking but do consume your food within an hour as these are all fresh ingredients.
