Doutor Coffee, a famous franchise cafe and roaster from Japan makes its way into Sunway Velocity, Cheras KL last year, adding one more count to their already massive outlets total.
Started out in Harajuku Tokyo with a 9 sqr meters shop size, Doutor didn’t let the small space to stop them from going far. High quality beverage at reasonably price, alongside with warmth and outstanding service had earned them great reputation. Their hardship was paid off as they slowly gained liking from customers, expanding to having 900 outlets in Japan, more than 1200 worldwide after more than 3 decades.
The brand now has their own plantation in Kona Island, Hawaii – A dream come true achievement, at the same time opening up new opportunities for Doutor to explore further in coffee industry.
In Doutor Malaysia, the menu has a balanced focus on coffee, non-coffee beverage, dessert and light savoury food. Still, to us, coffee is a must. Hand brew coffee is available in blend and single origin. For other espresso-based beverage, apart from classic white and black, Doutor also highlights coffee with more playful flavours, including Honey Cafe Latte, Military Latte and Creme Brulee Latte.
Fluffy Matcha (RM12)
Was planning to get a cup of hot Matcha Latte initially as this beverage received heaps of positive feedbacks, but we were attracted to the Fluffy Matcha too, thanks to the picture on Doutor menu. Haha. This fluffy matcha is more like a reverse latte, where we were given a bowl of frothed milk and matcha powder separately. Then the fun things came in – DIY session – Poured matcha power into the milk and stirred until the powder dissolve. Not too bad but we’ll stick to the matcha latte next time.
Summerkid wasn’t in the mood for hot coffee so there goes a cup of Frozen Honey Latte (RM15). Surprisingly lovely! Ice blended drink, not too sweet, with pleasing honey sweetness, mild bitterness. Other option on their Frozen list include Mango Yogurt, Berries Yogurt, Frozen Matcha, Frozen Chocolate, Frozen Yuzu and Frozen Latte. Price from RM11 for regular, most RM17 for large.
Creme Brulee Latte RM16
Our friend tried out Creme Brulee Latte – Hot latte with creme brulee caramelized topping.
Teriyaki Chicken & Egg Sandwich RM13
Food selection is limited, less than 15 items but sufficient enough for fulfilling breakfast or goodbrunch. Sandwich and omu wrap are the most ordered dishes. Had a set of Teriyaki Chicken & Tamago that didn’t look good, as the bread looked so “white and pale”. Haha. Thankfully it tasted better than its appearance! Two slices of soft, thick brioche loaf, brimming with Teriyaki chicken chunks, egg mao, lettuce, tomato and wasabi mayo within. Wasabi mayo did a great job in emphasizing the overall flavour , but for the chicken, could be better if was less dry.
Ratatouille RM15
Glad to see Doria Baked Rice, even though only two choices – creamy seafood and Ratatouille. Portion fit just nice for one, putting together seame rice, capsicum, eggplant, cucumber, onion in tomato puree, topped with mozzarella cheese and baked.
Mentai Shrimp Pasta RM17
Mentai Shrimp was quite weak in taste comparing to Ratatouille. Taste was relied on the generous amount of mentaiko topping. Still, has a room of improvement. But if you like your spaghetti light, it may be your favourite.
Original Vanilla Mille Crepe RM13
Added a slice of Original Vanilla Mille Crepe as dessert. Beautiful thin crepe layers, thickly smeared with vanilla milk cream. rich and creamy for us. Best for sharing. Other sweet treat on Doutor menu includes Waffle French Toast, Matcha Mille Crepe, Chocolate Waffle and more.
Overall comment: Doutor Malaysia serves very nice coffee and Frozen ice blended beverage. Professional and polite service from staff. Come earlier around 11AM, as the mall will be crowded as noon arrives.
