Tujoh at Section 17, Petaling Jaya – A cafe with courtyard-style design. Great coffee and matcha latte, with all-day-brunch menu in reasonable price.
Located next to Restoran K. Intan, a shop famous for their egg noodles, dumpling soup, siu yoke curry noodles and wantan mee, Tujoh Kafe Section 17 reflects a contrasting dining scene between traditional kopitiam and modern cafe. Cross generation kind of F&B trend but thanks to Malaysians’ love for food, both old and new are still highly favoured.
Kafe Tujoh runs on a business hour from 11AM-11PM (12.30AM on Fri-Sat, 10PM on Sun). Slightly late for breakfast crowd but just nice to fit in brunch meal. We were half an hour earlier that Sunday. While waiting for the cafe to open, we couldn’t take our eyes off the bowls after bowls of wantan mee being churned out by the staff in K.Intan. Haha. Looked so delicious. Stomach growling. Almost wanted to walk in. OK la, tahan and pinned it for next visit.
Happily skipped in when 11AM struck, because we wanted to have the courtyard seat with plenty of natural light. #LifeOfAPhotographer. LOL. But of course, this courtyard-style interior is also one of the reasons we like Kafe Tujoh, despite it is not the only cafe in Klang Valley having such design.
Matcha Latte (RM12) , Hot Latte (RM10)
Tujoh Cafe doesn’t have a big menu, but the good taste and reasonable price make it worth a visit. Their Matcha Latte (RM12) and Houjicha Latte (RM12) on the non-coffee list are lovely. Coffee in white and black too, take the centre stage in beverage menu.
For portion given, food price is cheaper than we expect. Everything doesn’t go beyond RM25 (*except for Mentai-glazed Salmon RM32), some with Japanese fusion touch. Moroccan Baked Eggs ( egg poached in sauce of onion, peppers, tomatoes, spices RM20), Soft Shell Crab Goma Salad (mixed salad with crispy soft shell crab & goma dressing RM23), Asian Beef Stroganoff with Roof Vegetable RM18, Spicy Creamy Soft Shell Crab RM23, Wafe Hambagu ( chicken patty burger stuffed egg with sweet shoyu RM23) are highly recommended.
Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich RM18
We settled on Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich and Spicy Creamy Soft Shell Crab. The former arrived in generous portion, with thick cut pan-seared chicken thigh and grilled pineapple stuffed between sandwich bread, topped with saute mushroom, served with fresh salad.
Not bad, just a tad oily. Better if they could tune it with more pronounced flavours of “teriyaki”.
Spicy Creamy Soft Shell Crab RM23
Spicy Creamy Soft Shell Crab was rich and creamy. Not cloying so one person can finish the whole plate. They gave a whole deep fried soft shell crab! Golden crispy at the outside, burst with juiciness and sweetness of crab meat. Personally felt that both the dishes will go well with wine. Too bad it is an alcoholic-free cafe.
Diners who want to end with dessert can check out cake display for sweet treat selections, or order Mango & Strawberry Panna Cotta, Creme Brulee with Mixed Berries available on the menu. Few staffs came over (*like every 10 minutes?) and asked if it was hot, and whether we wanted to have the shade pulled down when it was closed to noon. Extra marks for friendly service, attentive staffs.
