The Table at Isetan The Japan Store, LOT 10 KL is bringing in another round of hype after the opening of their Japanese department store last year. This time all about food, a space that put together 5 top restaurants under on roof. They are – Tonkatsu Anzu, Sushi Azabu, The Tokyo Restaurant.Bar & Cafe, Toriden Chicken Hot Pot, and Yakiniku Toraji, for your Washoku experience.
As you take the escalator up to 4th floor of Isetan Lot 10, be ready to get welcomed by exquisite interior with charms of Japanese zen. Don’t get set back by the luxury touch and design, as dining budget from each restaurant is not that wallet-killing. Certainly a dining floor that fits well for either birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, corporate lunch or just leisure dinner.
Went to Tonkatsu Anzu for Summerkid’s birthday dinner last week. Tonkatsu Anzu is prides for their Gin-Jo Pork, or pork specially chosen by chief chef. They are of high quality, rare and grown with insistence. Before this, we can only savour Anzu pork in Singapore Japan Food Town. Hence their arrival in Malaysia, of course, brings joy to tonkatsu lovers like us.
There are 3 types of Gin-jo Pork Set on Limited [Anzu Select] Katsu Set, namely Gin-Jo Pork Fatty Loin Katsu Set ( RM55), Gin-Jo Pork Loin Katsu Set (RM48), and Gin-Jo Pork Fillet Katsu (RM55).
Gin-Jo Pork Fatty Loin Katsu Set RM55
Anzu menu is written down with “Please enjoy the taste that will melt on your tongue” below Gin-jo Pork Fatty Loin Katsu Set description. Got intrigued so we had a set for this, hoping to sink our teeth into “melting” texture of pork, or at least, somewhere close to. Sadly, the pork didn’t live up to our expectation. No “melt on your tongue” feeling at all but chewy, needing good jaw exercise chewing on the meat.
Gin-Jo Pork Fillet Katsu RM55
Gin-Jo Pork Fillet Katsu is better, rich in taste as mentioned on the menu but not mind-blowing. They did a good job on jacketing the pork meat with beautifully golden brown, crispy outer layer. Better if it can be less dry, but is alright as drizzles of Tonkatsu sauce saved the flaw.
Apart fron Gin-Jo Pork Set, there’s also other Japanese Katsu Set such as Fried Shrimp Set, Fried Shrimp and Pork Loin Set, Hot Pot Pork Loin Katsu Set, Thick Pork Loin Steak with Ginger Sauce, Cheese Pork Loin Katsu Set, Pork Fillet Katsu & Cabbage Rolls Katsu Set, Flavour Vegetable Katsu Set, just to name a few. Price is within RM32 – RM52.
Fried Shrimp and Pork Loin Set RM50
Our third order, Fried Shrimp & Pork Loin Katsu Set was average in taste too. Expect to bite into deep fried shrimp with bouncy fresh texture, but it turned out to be soft and mushy. What a disappointment. However, we do like the Pork Loin Katsu appeared in a nice balance between fat and lean meat. More succulent and juicy overall.
Each Katsu Set is complete with cabbage, soup, Japanese pickles, choice of mains, and Japanese rice. The best part of the meal ended up to be cabbage and rice. Haha. Refilled twice on the thinly striped cabbage salad.
Anzu also offers ala-carte choices like Japanese Special Tofu (RM12), Japanese Fried Chicken (RM16), Chawanmushi (RM14), Japanese Classic Omelet (RM16) and dessert such as Homemade Almond Tofu Jelly (RM12), White Coffee Pudding (RM12), Vanilla Ice Cream & Sweet Potato (RM12), Baked Rice Cake & Ice Cream (RM12) to end your meal sweet.
Overall Comment: Staff service in Anzu is great, despite the unpleasant miscommunication experience from The Table Isetan KL phone reservation. Food wise, mediocre in taste but scores on pork quality. We recommend pork loin. Total bill came to ~RM220, including one sake and sho-ju order.
