Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, an Autograph Collections Hotel by Marriott has finally opened its door to the public! Jalan Kamunting is chosen as the property’s location – once a major settlement for tin mining with neighbourhood houses built from wood and thatch. Even though the area is now refurbished to have beautiful cafes, restaurants, and galleries lining up, the stripes of stories that this urban district carries, will stay on.
The colonial-style architecture of Stripes Hotel KL reminds us about Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. White front facade, proudly shines in vintage charm blended with modern contemporary design, undoubtedly a “love at the first sight” kind of hotel to us. 184 guests room & suites, complete with two main dining spots – The Snug and Brasserie 25.
We went for a dinner at Brasserie 25 Restaurant last week, and left happily with beyond expectation dining experience. Fantastic food quality, reasonable price, warmth service aside, what we love most is relaxing atmosphere. Exposed wooden bricks arcades stretched out along the open-kitchen, artistic chandeliers, wooden flooring, furnishing in shades of brown and grey, the restaurant is elegantly designed in almost every expect, like walking into an European house. Lunch date, rewarding dinner, romantic anniversary, birthday celebrations, Brasserie 25 suits these all.
Escargot – Baked Burgundy Escargots with Garlic Herb Butter RM40
Brasserie 25 doesn’t hold a big menu, but their food is so worthwhile that we already planning for second visit. Chef highlights on French-style dishes, putting together entrées like Salad, Foie Gras Terrine, French Onion Soup, Baked Escargots, Pan-seared Foie Gras; and main dishes including Roasted Chicken, Duck Leg Confit, Grain-Fed Angus Rib Eye, Braised Beef Cheek, Red Snapper in Parchment Packets to please.
Foie Gras Poele – Pan Seared Foie Gras with Warm Onion Marmalade Ade and Spice Bread RM50
Ordered few entrées for sharing – Foie Gras Poele, Escargot, Terrine. We enjoyed Foie Gras Poele the most. Pan-seared to nice brown with thin layer of crispiness exterior, soft and soft, custard-like center, Layered it with candied onion marmalade over spice bread for perfect texture and flavour match.
French Fries
Cabillaud – Pan Roasted Cod Fillet with Ratatouille RM80
Main course selections are quite focused with around 10 dishes. Exquisite presentation but no worries, not extra fine portion so rest assured, you will be full by the time you finish your mains. Our dining companions that night were particular fond on cod fish and beef, so we settled down on Lentrecote De Boeuf, Joue De Boeuf Braisee and Cabilaud. Added Duck Confit with Lamb Sausage for sharing.
Cassoulet- Stewed White Bean with Lamb Sausage, Duck Confit RM60
Ended up the sharing dish was the most memorable choice. Flavourful lamb sausage, pairing well with stewed white bean. Unless you are really hungry and having a big appetite, else this platter is enough to fit two.
Braised Beef Cheek in Red Wine RM120
Lentrecote de Boeuf – Char-grilled Grain Fed Angus Rib Eye, French Fries, Brandy Cream Sauce
But of course, the 200days grain fed Angus rib eye that Summerkid ordered was delicious too! Done medium rare, juicy and tender cut.
La Creme Brulee RM20
There are only 5 sweet treat selections on Brasserie 25 dessert menu – La Creme Brulee, Le Souffle Au Marnier, Grand Marnier Souffle with Vanilla Ice Cream, Crepe Suzettes, Le Fromages Fermiers. We greedily ordered all. The good of having a group of people dining together. LOL.
Crepe Suzettes RM30
The best among all? Crepe! Thin layers of egg crepe, folded and dressed in a bed of citrusy sauce with vanilla ice cream. Superb despite being not-so-photography worthy compared to the rest. Highly recommended!
Grand Marnier Souffle with Vanilla Ice Cream RM30
Le Fromages Fermiers RM50
Second and third favourite were cheese platters and Grand Marnier Souffle. We loved the latter for being pillowy soft, better if the sweetness can be tuned down a little.
