[Update as of July 2018: #FIVE-HT is permanently closed down, and being replaced by another eatery named Knowhere Bangsar]
FIVE-HT (or 5HT) Cafe at Bangsar Kuala Lumpur (*Same row with Maria Steakhouse) raises the attention of cafe hoppers with their modern contemporary interior that carries cozy charm, but no trace of big breakfast, egg benedict, French toast or any creative food that can branch out from classic brunch favourite on the menu. Japanese rice bowl takes the center stage here, while keeping coffee as the focused beverage, with coffee beans proudly sourced from various countries.
The cafe was opened end of 2016, facing the main road towards BSC, away from the hustle of Telawi streets. It wasn’t crowded during our visit on one Sunday morning, about 10.30AM. Staff told us that the kitchen will only start serving hot dishes from 11AM onwards. So if Five HT famous don and udon are things that brought you over, you can probably sleep in a little and walk in after 11AM.
Mentaiko Egg Croissant RM15
However, if you were here early, start with a cuppa and have some light food – Bagels, croissant or cakes. Summergirl was so happy to grab the last piece of croissant on tray, and asked fo having it stuffed with mentaiko egg (RM15). You can also opt for roast beef (RM18).
Thick, creamy filling generously filled within shatter crisp croissant with buttery layers. We like how the honey tomato delivered some juicy sweetness as we munched on. Basic ingredient but clocked in just right to help balance up the creaminess. For plain croissant, FIVE-HT is serving it at super cheap price when you order in combo – RM10 with black coffee and RM12 with white coffee.
Salmon Mentaiko RM26
As the clock struck 11, our donburi arrived. Hahaha. Had Salmon Mentaiko- Seared salmon topped with spicy cod roe mayonaise, parmesan and sukiyaki sauce over Japanese rice. Loved that they sprinkled furikake on top. Yummeh.
Portion is just nice, especially for the rice. We could hardly finish the rice most of the time when having Japanese don, as it is so filling. FIVE-HT ‘s version is alright, we emptied everything in the bowl, and miso soup too!
Other rice option on FIVE HT menu includes Poke Bowl (RM45, Sashimi ceviche in a soy lime and spicy citrus sauce, served with cucumber & avocado), Chicken Teriyaki (RM30, Pan seared chicken in sweet teriyaki, served with onsen egg), Tamago Mentai (RM26, Torched spicy cod roe mayonaise wrapped around soft scrambled egg), Truffle Konomai (RM35, lightly seared omelette topped with konbu, sukiyaki sauce, truffle oil) and more. If budget allowed, go for their Gyu Tamago – seared wagyu beef served with chef’s special silky egg skin, at the price of RM90. Not something we’ll opt for on a normal day dining, but this rice bowl worth the price you pay for. Premium quality asides, with skillful preparation to present the best flavours of luxury wagyu meat.
Latte RM10
Get our coffee fix in white. You can also have filtered coffee, as well as 5HT specials – Avocado Coffee, Coconut Matcha, Coconut Mocha, Truffle Latte, Coconut Oil & Butter Bulletproof Coffee and Coco Americano.
