Thong Kee Coffee Shop 溏记海南茶室 at Pandan Indah, KL, a famous Hainan kopitiam originated from Bentong, Pahang. Coffee, kaya & butter toast, soft boiled egg and Western breakfast are some of their signature food, complete with local favourite stalls including curry mee, chee cheong fun, wantan mee, roasted chicken rice, Sarawak noodles, nasi lemak, prawn mee and so forth.
Back then, it wasn’t that crowded but now gets full house before 9.30AM during weekend. We failed to get a seat for the first time because we were late. Returned again for the second time, earlier, but still need to wait for about half an hour. Customers were seen waiting behind almost every occupied table, queue continued at the outside.
We aren’t too sure why people flock to Thong Kee Pandan Indah for coffee. If our memory served us right, food and beverage here weren’t that great when we visited this place one year back. Probably it has improved, so we decided to come back, taste again and blog about this place.
Kopi Peng RM2.30
Everyone behind the beverage counter was so busy, same goes to the staffs. So do not expect them to come over and ask ” Nak Minum Apa?” or ” Oi yam meh yeh?” during peak hours. It will be faster to go directly to the water counter, tell them your table number and what drinks you wish to have. Try their 1+1, said to be the best in town. It is actually cham, a mix of tea and kopi. 勁抽冰 is favourite among younger generation. Just Nesloh, Nescafe + Milo to be exact. Can we called it as Kopitiam style mocha? Our Kopi Peng is decent, but definitely not the best. We personally enjoy Teluk Intan coffee, as it is more kau.
Kaya & Butter Croissant RM4.50
While many of them tucked into toasted Hainanese bread with kaya butter, or dipped with half boiled egg, we spotted something different – sandwiched croissant. Ordered one which with kaya & cold butter out of curiosity, and Summerkid said it was not bad. Very crunchy outer layer but not flaky, chewy soft inside but be ready for the oiliness when cold butter melted into the bread.
Sarawak Mee RM6.00
Heard that this wantan noodles stall dishes out pretty good Sarawak handmade noodles Lightly tossed in sauce, topped with minced meat and roasted pork slices. Erm, to be honest, we didn’t really like this. Perhaps the wantan mee is better, despite the sauce still needs improvement.
Pork Noodle RM6.00
Never order this. It tasted quite bad. Soup is pale, lacked of pork sweetness. Toppings were alright, with pork meatballs, minced meatballs, pork slices, and pork liver.
Perhaps the roasted chicken stall and nasi lemak stall, which were on brisk business throughout our 1 hour in Thong Kee Coffee Shop, could be a safer choice.
Besides Pandan Indah, you can also find Thong Kee in Aman Suria now.
