Cafe Lafayette at Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya- a cafe located above Wakon Japanese Restaurant, next to Fat Spoon. Nothing about industrial theme wood & steel combination or minimalism white design, but more towards a homey space that everyone will feel comfortable dining in.
Bold, contrasting colours applied on walls, mini picture frames, furnitures, pillow cushions, and European-style knick-knacks creating lively charm to the overall interior. Not every corner denotes perfect lighting for Instagram photos, but if you’re lucky, you may get seats near to the ceiling-to-floor windows with better natural light during daytime. If you don’t, switch to the area surrounded by hue yellow lighting, equally cozy ambience.
Lamb Shoulder
Cafe Lafayette menu focuses on Italian Western delights with fusion creation, putting together selections like all-day-breakfast, pasta, risotto and main courses including Chicken Cordon Bleu, Grilled Salmon, Chicken Chop, Lamb Chop, Fish N’ Chips, Hawaiian Chicken Chop, just to name a few. Generous portion, reasonable price so a satisfying lunch or dinner here will not hurt your wallet.
Maryland Chicken
Breaded chicken chop, served with a side of black pepper, mushroom or brown sauce of your choice. Sided with mashed potato and garden salad.
Hawaiian Chicken
Fried Mozzarella
When you walk in seeing almost every table having a plate of Fried Mozzarella, you can easily figure out that it won’t be too wrong ordering this. In fact, if you happened to browse through their Facebook or check-in of Cafe Lafayette in social media platforms, you will get taken away with its look. Long pull of cheese, stuffed within fluffy bread, with a layer of deep fried bread crumbs. Eat while it is hot to maximize the melting good cheesiness.
Breaded Fish Deli
Eat breakfast like a king. Cafe Lafayette breakfast set fits this well, be it Big Breakfast Deluxe (RM25.90) to Double Footlong Sausage (RM22.90), Breadad Fish Deli (RM23.90), Gourmet Bread N’ Egg (RM22.90), or Breakfast In The Pot (RM22.90). We had a try on their Breaded Fish Deli, layering up deep fried breaded fish and egg over gourmet bread, drizzled with lemon mayo sauce, complete with a side of mixed salad. Recommended.
Smoked Chicken Risotto
Instead of using arborio rice, Cafe Lafayette added personal twist to their risotto by using long grain rice. Cook together with cream to get the creaminess, further tossed with onion and mushroom. It wasn’t creaminess loaded, but lighter, with a cross between risotto and fried rice. Have it together with beef bacon, the entire flavours of this risotto is elevated through its savoury smokiness.
Spaghetti Penne Salmon
Pesto di Salmon, chef recommendation. Not exactly appealing, but tastes better than its look. Tomato cream base, cooked with salmon chunks, fresh basil, onion, parmesan cheese and olive oil. Not too heavy in creaminess, balanced up with hints of tanginess from tomato, so we generally don’t feel cloying eating this till the end.
Chicken Carbonara
Strawberry Stack
Come for the Mozzarella Cheese, stay for the dessert. We were actually quite surprise with the dessert served in Cafe Lafayette. Their waffle especially, is beyond our expectation. Crispy thin outer layer, light in the middle but not the hollow, empty type. A good contrast of crunchy – fluffy texture.
Waffle Martini
Get your camera ready so you don’t lose the chance of capturing the best moments of this “sweet treat floating in the air cloud”. Placed in dry ice for the foggy scene, disappeared within a minute but of course not the lovely Waffle Martini. Ice cream, maple drizzle, espresso shot and waffle slices – like a combination of classic waffle with affogato. Something that earns Summergirl’s liking.
For beverage, enjoy from flat white, latte, long black, espresso to flavour-infused latte such as rose cafe latte, hazelnut latte; green tea latte, mocha, hot chocolate. Ice blended mocha, peppermint mocha, cappuccino, choco banana ice blended, choco run, Nutella ice blended and Peanut Caramel Ice blended are worthwhile too.
For those who are not into coffee, grab a bottle of cold press juice or a pot tea (Tiger Tea or Chili – chili Bang Bang Tea) to pair with your food.
