Artisan Room at Shek Tong Tsui, Hong Kong – Make your way to the cafe which houses the only Gothicism Steampunk cold drip brewer in Hong Kong, indulge into sweet or
savoury éclair and enjoy offline conversation in a cool vibe.
We feel glad to be able to enjoy the convenience offered by Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong University and Kennedy Town MTR station, the new extension line of Hong Kong Island MTR which begins their operation last year. Food hunting in Western district and Sai Wan turns easier. We managed to try out some of the popular local favourites like dim sum, polo pau, wantan mee, beef noodles, egg rolls and modern cafes and dessert places near to the Grand City Hotel we staying, in Sai Ying Pun.
Take Artisan Room as example, this cafe is located just 1 minute walk from Hong Kong University MTR Exit B2, one station away from Sai Ying Pun. Just the right place to chill out while waiting for our flight in the evening. Save the worry of getting sweat all over, ended with sticky body but no place for shower – something that we tried to avoid during summer travel.
We were here for Artisan Room ice drip coffee actually but sadly, it wasn’t available that day. If you happened to be around, make sure to check out their dripped coffee prepared from Gothicism coffee machine. 36 drip per minute, lasting for 8 hours.
So we went for cappuccino instead, which was equally satisfying. Artisan Room uses Costadoro coffee beans, a century old Italian brand established since the year of 1890.
Enjoy French LØV Organic Tea on your non-coffee choices.
Apart from coffee, tea and Not an Average pint of Craft Beer, light food like éclair, quiche, polenta, weekend pound cake, bread, sandwiches are available too. Éclair here can easily takes the limelight, featuring a colourful varieties of sweet & savoury eclair from chili chocolate to pineapple rum, salted caramel, sweet potato, garlic basil, dark chocolate, Honey Ham with Parmesan and Tuna.
In support to Hong Kong entrepreneurs, Artisan Room Cafe has teamed up with S’il Vous Plait Patisserie HK to present this oblang pastry, quiche and cakes, made using traditional technique with finest natural ingredients.
We ordered Garlic Basil Eclair upon recommendation from the friendly staff. Good as its look, a good balance of basil and garlic flavours, with very subtle peppery and minty scent delivered by the former. Surprisingly, it pairs so well with our coffee, despite its savoury base.
Tried on affogato to compensate our disappointment for not getting to cold drip hahaha. Ice cream is made in house, creamy, milky base, texture added with crispy biscuit bits. And of course, not to forget the deep flavour of espresso blending into this sweet treat.
Overall review: A relaxed cafe easily accessible by MTR. Food and coffee aren’t cheap but definitely worthwhile. Love the modern sleek design, especially the al-fresco area surrounded by lush greenery.
