Sanoook Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid Hotel West is now serving Japanese food in Thai twist with lots of smiles and fun plus friendship, just like how it is named – Sanook with an extra O !
Managed by folks behind Chakri Palace Fine Thai Cuisine, Sanoook proves to be a new milestone for the team, creating new and exciting food concept on top of the core cuisine they are proud at all this while. Expect to see traditional delicacies with modern touch on Sanoook menu, such as Japanese Salmon Sushi Maki topped with drizzles of Tom Yum sauce.
Sunway West Hotel is an extended building linked with Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, currently still quiet with only few eateries including Menya Miyabi Ramen, Starbucks, Sanoook and upcoming Im Pre Ssoul 食尚共和. It can be reached via PADINI Concept Store, passing through The Parenthood International Preschool and go one floor down. Or, from outdoor, to the right of H&M fashion store. There are parking available in the hotel, in case you want to skip all the walking hassle.
Tom Yum Soup with River Prawn RM24
In contrary to Chakri Palace, Sanoook Restaurant is more casual with colouful, young vibes. It looks like a Thai restaurant, which gave us initial thought that Thai food is serves here. So that said we got it right, for half. LOL. But still, we couldn’t help but to start with a bowl of Tom Yum Soup, filled in sake bottle. Ahhh, satisfyingly good with spicy, rich, bold flavours.
4 Season Platter RM38
Then only we began ordering sharing appetizers hahaha. 4 Season Platter is a good go as since there were 10 of us. Most items on the starter list is in the platter- Salmon Cream Croquette, Thai Fish Cake, Crispy Calamari, Crispy Thai Chicken Ball, Vegetarian Spring Roll. The best? Salmon Cream Croquette.
Pan Fried Tuna Steak with Spinach & Mixed Mushroom Served with Teriyaki Sauce RM29
For main course, it is a mix of Thai favourites – Pan Fried Sea Bass Fillet with Mixed Vegetable in Lime & Chilli Sauce (RM37), Deep Fried Grouper Fillet with Thai Samrod Sauce (RM60); Western selections – Grilled Wagyu Beef with Foie Gras (RM95); fusion Japanese Thai – Grilled Chicken Steak with Teriyaki Sauce & Mixed Vegetable (RM26), Japanese Whole Squid with Thai Seafood Sauce (RM39), and Grilled Unagi & Pan ried Beancurd with Mixed Mushroom & Teriyaki Sauce (RM39), just to name a few.
Smoked Salmon with Thai Mango Chili Sauce RM29
One of our favourites in Sanoook. Deep fried to have crunchy outer crust that gave extra textures to the sushi, topped with smoked salmon. Finished with Thai Mango Chili Sauce, a refreshing spicy-sweet concoction that makes an ideal replacement to usual Japanese mayo sauce.
Tuna with Tom Yum Sauce RM28
Other sushi rolls to choose from – Unagi served with Japanese Sauce (RM40), Soft Shell Crab with Thai Mango Chili Sauce (RM35), River Prawn Tempura with Mentaiko Mayo (RM29), Sanook’s Rainbow with Sesame Sauce (RM20), Mixed Vegetable & Fruit with Sesame Mayo (RM20), Marinated Beef with Avocado & Roe (RM27).
Sanoook Salad RM30
Sanoook Salad tossed together lettuce green, honey tomato, avocado, Japanese cucumber wrapped with salmon and thickly sliced baked apple, a dish that is suitable for sharing, also substantial enough as personal main course.
Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce Sushi Rice Burger RM18
Vegetable Skewers with Sanoook Sauce RM29
Skewers here turned out to be more noteworthy than expected. Salmon wrapped with scallop, salmon belly, salmon fillet, prawn, beef, chicken wings, chicken and vege are options to have. Have your chicken and beef laid with green curry, chu chee sauce, massaman; while for seafood, lime Chilli and Sanoook Sauce.
Salmon Belly Skewer RM78
Salmon belly is high recommended amongst others. Love its rich, buttery texture, great to eat with vegetables to tone down the oiliness. Summergirl said Sanoook deserved another tagline for their cuisine – Mediterranean, after looking at those huge skewers served in hot plate. Double, almost triple the size of Japanese skewers we always have.
Fresh Durian Ice Cream with Coconut Milk & Sago RM22
We aren’t durian fans so this Fresh Durian Ice Cream with Coconut Milk Sago dessert could hardly earn our liking, but our friends enjoy this a lot, scooping one small bowl after another, ended up finished everything. *clap hands*. It is really rich, creamy and milky, heavily loaded with flavours of durian so this is something right for King of Fruit lovers.
Thai Volcano RM19
We called this a Thai version bingsu. Milk tea shaved iced as the based, towered up like a Volcano with flour cake, green tea pearl and sago toppings.
Enjoy wide range of beverage here, from mocktail in gimmicky name Bananacado, Boloi Muay Tea, Slapping Beauty, Test Tube Babe, What A Sunny Day, Shirley Thai Temple to Sanoook cocktail, soft drinks, coffee, Thai iced tea, fresh juice, and beer.
Overall: Salmon Belly Skewers, Tom Yum Soup with River Prawns and Pan Seared Tuna with Spinach & Mixed Mushrooms are few of our recommendations. Pork free restaurant with friendly service, food suppliers are Halal certified.
