Chuup at Damansara Jaya is just a stone’s throw away from Atria Shopping Gallery. The cafe welcomes diners to park in the mall, walk over for like 500m, sit down and fill your tummy with superb local delicacies then get RM1 shopping mall parking fee. Not a bad idea but of course, this definitely not the reason that pulls us to visit this eatery.
Since opening, Chuup has been famous for their pork dishes. No, is not about Western BBQ grilled pork ribs or pulled pork burger here but instead, a humble plate of traditional Hainanese pork chop, Grandma’s Pork Chop and skewers of pork satay to please. Completing Chuup menu are equally famous choices like Nyonya Curry Mee, Prawn Mee, Chicken Chop, Yam Cake, Popiah and fusion twist of aglio-olio with Serai, Spicy Shrimp Spaghetti and Seafood Gulai Pasta.
Chuup Nasi Lemak with Pork Rendang RM15.90
Expect pork rendang will take the limelight but surprisingly, the steamed rice turns out to be the clear winner – Fluffy, fragrant, helmed with coconut milk aroma. Sided with acar, hard boiled egg, blanched kangkung, ikan bilis, peanuts and homemade sambal.
Pork rendang is decent, homemade sambal is mild in spiciness, and we love the tangy acar. Wish we could have additional portion of the acar, great to balance up the heaviness of sambal and very “lemak” rice. You can also opt for Fried Chicken Chuup Nasi Lemak at RM16.90.
Chuup Prawn Mee RM14.90
So some reviews mentioned that Chuup serves one of the best prawn mee in town. Not cheap at RM14.90 per bowl but seeing 3 medium size prawns, 2 halved hard boiled egg, thick cut pork slices, blanched kangkung, fishcake, beansprouts, deep fried pork lard sitting on top when noodles is served, we will say that the price is at least, acceptable. Broth is flavourful, gathering sweetness of prawns. Shrimp sambal sauce served along is packed with flavours, but not towards spicy.
Comments: Reasonable price. Friendly service. Food price are all below RM20, except for certain items like Western fusion seafood pasta. Will come back again for Hainanese Pork Chop, ‘coz we are more into rice and noodle this time. A home-style restaurant great for simple family lunch and dinner.
