Aka Cafe at Taman Desa KL lies between PAWsitive Inc and Wong Seng Kitchen, along Jalan 1/109F, same row with Le Lapin Cafe. It took us some time to locate this hidden Japanese-style cafe, but glad that we managed to find it. Look out for the super mini shop sign of bottle outlined in red colour.
Homey interior, furnished in calm, pale tone. White walls, wooden tables & chairs, complete with decorative pillows, potted plants, story books, fresh flowers for a cheerful touch. Not overly crowded during our visit, with walked-in customers on and off for lunch. That’s how we love a cafe to be like.
Aka Cafe menu focuses on Japanese selections, putting a cross between Japanese traditional delicacies with modern fusion inspiration. You’ll get edamame, Tori Karaage, Japanese Croquatte, Tamagoyaki, Hiyayako for side dishes; salad, Japanese hamburg, sandwich, inari sushi, onigiri, Shichu rice, udon, and curry rice for main course. A long list for beverage section, putting together coffee, milk, Wedgwood fine tea, cold press juice, sencha, genmaicha, houjicha, cola float, coffee float and ice ball special. Dessert depends on daily special, with tiramisu and mille crepe as popular items.
Sakura Bento RM18
Couldn’t help but to order a set of Sakura Bento when we were introduced with Aka Cafe Spring Menu. Soup, chicken karaage, salad, soup, inari sushi and fruits beautifully placed in a wooden square box. What makes us happy is pleasing moments when Sakura Bento was served to us. LOL. Portion wise, just right for small eater like Summergirl. Else, you may need to add something else for a more filling meal. Besides Sakura Bento, Aka Cafe blossoms the Spring season with Sakura Onigiri, Sakura Mochi and Sakura Au-Lait. Limited time only.
Japanese Chicken Katsu Curry Rice RM16
Summerkid went for Japanese Chicken Katsu Curry Rice, a common and hard-to-go-wrong with Japanese comfort food. Deep-fried, thick chicken cutlet laid over a bed of white rice, dressed with creamy, flavourful and rich curry gravy. Overall quite OK, albeit the chicken was a tad too oily, plus rice was a bit too soft for our liking.
Coffee RM8
Coffee here is limited to only Black and White. Black for no milk, White for with milk. That simple. No special order for a choice among cappuccino, latte, or flat white. But still grateful to be able to get our coffee-fix. Suggest to try out Aka Cafe Ice Ball series – black coffee, matcha, cookies and cream made into ice ball, served over a glass of milk. Regret that we missed this out.
Overall, service is friendly, we personally love the comfortable environment It makes you feel like home, eating home-cooked dishes by mum. Too bad there’s no Matcha Tiramisu during our visit, but only Earl Grey Tiramisu, which we were too full to try out by the end of the meal. Will surely be back to try out this highly recommended dessert.
